Bonjour problem!

Ok, I've tried numerous times over the past month or two to install itunes 10.0.1, each time in the vain hope that my problem will disappear, but unfortunately it hasn't!

Each time I have tried to install it, a box has appeared during the installation of both Itunes and Quicktime, saying:

Windows Installer
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Bonjour.msi@ in the box below.

I did a search on my computer and found two files matching this name. However, whichever I tried to use, the message came up again. I have tried deleting various bits of Bonjour on my computer in the hope that I could reinstall and start over, but it came up with the same message when I tried to uninstall Bonjour through the Control Panel. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do now, so if anyone could help, that would be really greatly appreciated!

These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.

Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)

If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour entries and click "Remove".

Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?

(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

I use Windows 7 (64bit) and just had this problem solved by Apple Computer Tech Support. Ask for "Kevin" (senior techie) located in Oregon. VERY nice and helpful!!!

Go on the Apple web site and telephone them . . refer to my Case #183812270.

They will direct you to a page where you can download files which will repair your Apple Computer files (iTunes, Bonjour, etc.) permitting them to be uninstalled.

The process takes some time but IT WORKS!!!

The error message shows: Error: permission denied

Are you getting a *Code 800A0046* with that one, dream?

If so, try doing the CleanUp install with a "Run as administrator" as per the following document:

[Error "800A0046 - Permission Denied" when installing the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility in Windows Vista|http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/170/1/Error-800A0046---Permission-D enied-when-installing-the-Windows-Installer-Cleanup-Utility-in-Windows-Vista.htm l]
