How do I stop Pop-Under windows?

Why doesn't Block Pop-up Windows in Safari 5.0.2 stop Pop-Under windows?

Mac Mini 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.5), Logitech mouse, Apple wired keyboard, acer monitor

And, is there a way to stop them?

I looked at adding GlimmerBlocker, but while reading what GB does and doesn't do, their site states it can't stop Pop-Under ad windows, so I'm not interested in getting it. I'm not having any Pop-Up ad windows issues.

Glimmer Blocker does a great job and it's free.

Compatible with Leopard v10.5 and Safari 5

I haven't had any pop ups, under, over.. nada since installing Glimmer Blocker. If you don't like it it's very easy to uninstall, instructions here. http://glimmerblocker.org/wiki/Uninstall

Why are you so into this GlimmerBlocker app?
I see where you have used this same answer for similar questions. Makes me wonder if you were one of the developers.
Also, I wonder how safe it is as it's a 3rd party app?

We we Mac volunteers here find a great little app that works great and it's free,
we do tend to recommend it. I started several months ago, after I installed on
my Macs. No pop-ups or pop-unders since I put it on.

We sharing helpful recommendations.

Most of us who regularly volunteer here just really like to help.

It wouldn't be ethical for me to advise for Safari users to install a third party add-on if I indeed were the developer.

GlimmerBlocker is written by Vitality Aps as noted here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/glimmerblocker.html

I advise using it because it works.

Revision of previous post.

GlimmerBlocker is a great app.
It's the ONLY third party internet app I have installed.
It works great, and does not need to be updated after each Safari update.

You will find that most of us who help here, just do it to help other Mac users.
When there is conflict of interest, i.e., developers recommending their own apps,
the Hosts step in very quickly, and require a caveat statement at the end of their posts.
"I may receive financial compensation, etc., etc."
That how you can tell the developer of an app you're asking about.

I am having the same issue with Safari 5.0.2. I never had pop-unders, or pop-ups when I was using older OS or versions of Safari. Why should I have to download a third party application, when this is obviously something Apple needs to fix? Don't they have some kind of bug fix to handle this issue? It's obviously an error in the coding...

Ok, thanks for the info from others writing here, but I agree with callmejefferson. Why should I, all of a sudden, need to install a 3rd party app to stop something Apple should have included in the script for their Pop-up Blocker?

A pop-under is a pop-up ad window, only it ends up underneath your Sarfari window instead of on top of it. Glimmer-Blocker doesn't seem to be working to stop them anymore. It's really bad when I go to watch tv or videos online. I hate them, especially when they are hawking dating sites or what look like p o r n sites. Whoever wrote the scripts for these ads is a genius if they can get around all the ad blocking aps.

I went back and reread another, older post about Pop-Under Windows ads and Glimmer Blocker today. I read that JavaScript is the reason those ads manage to bypass Glimmer Blocker's resources to stop them and other Block Pop-up Windows. Many sites need JavaScript to be turned ON to work, so I suppose we're stuck with them. 😟

schoodle, have you made sure your Glimmer Blocker is up to date? I have very few pop-unders and no pop-overs. I mean maybe 2 in the last 6 months . . .

Yes I have. I checked for an update today as a matter of fact, and I have it set to automatically check for updates in anycase.
