I could not get past the verification stage with Face Time. I tried to use the Gmail address I use with my iTunes Account, but I get the error message: "Unable to verify email because it is already in use". I am reluctant to change my email address for my Apple ID. Any ideas how to fix this?
I had the same problem, though with a me.com address. I already had an Apple ID account, and didn't want to use the new me.com under a new account...
Fix: You don't have to use your email address as your actual Apple ID, contrary to what many (including Apple staff many a time too!) actually tell you. Go into your current Apple ID account (https://appleid.apple.com/ ) and alter your Apple ID anything you want (eg. myname or my.name, anything that is not being used by another user), then add the Gmail address as the email under that account. Should work.
As for this log-in error, I have just found out that I had to WRONGLY use my FULL me.com email address to log in (ie. email@example.com rather than the Apple ID I use on all other Apple services, my.name). It is a bug and should definitely be reported!
You don't have to use your FULL email after all. Make sure on the FaceTime app, you use your correct Apple ID (ie. just "my.name" in my case, not "firstname.lastname@example.org"), then you should still receive the verification email (or a new one, if previously had one) to your me.com address.
Then log-in on that verification page as just "my.name" with your password, and it should work.
Still a pain that Apple have not sorted this account association for me.com users. Having this shadow NON-DELETABLE full email address Apple ID account for no reason, is completely wrong!
Reason being, if I forget all my details, it then asks you security questions that are the same under BOTH accounts for the full email address, so it could log you into either ("my.name" OR "my
.email@example.com") and you can't be sure which it has selected from it's database?!
First off, I was able to register with Facetime beta on my MAC. But, from my iTouch 4G, every time I try to register a different email address, I keep getting the same error as everyone here. I've tried everything from from clicking the link from different MACs/PCs to switching browsers (as suggested), but still no dice.
I should mention that my primary (@gmail.com) address is registered under two Apple IDs, one that I use for the app store and everywhere else, and the second that I use primarily for the "developer center". Still trying to get this working.
