Iphone usage/standby time

Hey,

I know what usage and standby means, my question is say I have 23hrs standby and 5hrs usage. Does this mean I have 28hrs altogether since my last charge or are two times compliantly separate,

Usage: Amount of time iPhone has been awake and in use since the last full charge. The phone is awake when you’re on a call, using email, listening to music, browsing the web, or sending and receiving text messages, or during certain background tasks such as auto-checking email.

Standby: Amount of time iPhone has been powered on since its last full charge, including the time the phone has been asleep.

Standby is the amount of time your iPhone has been powered on since its last full charge which includes the time your iPhone has been asleep and the time your iPhone has been used.

I have been to the Genius Bar at three different Apple Stores this week without resolution to my problem. The Usage and Standby times are exactly the same on my phone, meaning there's some app or program running and no one can figure out what it is. My phone was replaced TWICE so it's not a hardware problem. My battery drains in about 3-4 hours as a result which is not acceptable. I have done all the things one can do to increase battery life, such as turning off 3G, manually pushing email messages, etc. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Things i've done on my 3GS (iOS4.2.1):
-Turn off Wi-Fi
-Turn off Push
-Deleted mail account
-Hard reboot
-Network settings reset
-Turn off Location Services
-Log out and force-quit Game Center app
-Open a video and pause then slide the timeline to the beginning and press done
-Force quit iPod app.

I think almost none of them works. Well, i guess i have an easy Little solution (this ones work for me!!) (hope helps!)

1st. Turn off WiFi.
2nd. Turn on everything on cellular data (3G, Cellular Data, Data Roaming)
3rd. Wait until iPhone gets 3G signal, after it wait ~5mins
4th. Turn off 3G (DO NOT connect to any Wi-Fi networks. Before this is done), DO NOT turn off cellular data and data roaming.
5th. Turn on Wi-Fi. Connect to home Wi-Fi if available.
(please don't blame me if this does not work..(it does for me). I get this info from another people...)

You may need to skip step 1 if you have Wi Fi turned off
You may also need to skip step 1 and 5 if you don't have Home Wi-Fi.

Well, im done and happy here but i guess i have to do it every time it happens again...
Yes im happy but Of course im still looking for a permanent solution, I hope in 4.3 there's a fix 4 this matter...

Sorry that was off topic.

To reply your issue,

I'm a bit confused too.

Some times in what settings, i'm getting standby = usage + standby

But sometimes in whatotheridon'tknow settings, standby = just standby

It can mean 23 hours or 28 hours, i don't know.

But it should be 28 hours, since we have some iOS Devices.

But in some settings standby includes usage. I guess it's a bug.
