whats the difference between a section and a page break?

I don't see them doing much other than inserting a blank page. when would one ideally use a section break and a page break? which one is ms word compatible?

Neerav,

Both Pages and Word have both Section and Page break codes. A Page Break simply forces the content to continue at the top of the next page, just as though the current page was full. A Section Break is a more significant event. Headers and Footers can be different in different sections. Section Master Objects prevail only in the section in which they were generated. Page Numbering can restart or jump to a different initial value at a section break.

It would be a good idea to study these characteristics in the Pages User Guide PDF.

It is all in the name.

The hierarchy of breaks:

*Word Break* hyphenates word.

*Line Break* Forces text to new line within paragraph, indents, tabs, numbering and line spacing remain the same.

*Paragraph Return* New paragraph.

*Layout Break* Changes indents and column numbers.

*Page Break* Forces text to a new page within section, headers and footers and layout etc stay the same.

*Section Break* Forces new section (Chapter) can have different page numbering, headers, footers, layout and first page.
