Recording Light

Where does one find this "additional hardware that is not included with Logic Pro?"

I'd like to check into this, but haven't had any luck finding one available to purchase -- not planning on building my own, which was the only option I saw!

Recording Light
The Recording Light control surface plug-in enables you to control an external light or sign, warning visitors not to enter the recording studio before or during recording. Logic Pro sends a MIDI signal to switch on the external device when a track is record-enabled or when recording starts. Logic Pro sends another MIDI signal to switch off the device when tracks are made record-safe or when recording stops.

Note: This control surface plug-in requires additional hardware that is not included with Logic Pro.

Wow! Good call. Is this not exactly what the OP is talking about? I often wondered if, in real life, there actually existed this "additional hardware that is not included with Logic Pro". It seemed so obvious and necessary that I assumed it didn't exist. I'm such a pessimist.

From a practical point of view, though, if you're going to get a recording warning light, suggest you get one that you turn on and off manually. That way you can keep the light on independently of what you're doing in Logic. Think about it... ideally you want the light on before you start recording, not right at the moment you go into record. And keeping the light on when you're doing critical listening or just concentrating on your work turns the recording light into a general "do not disturb" indicator.

I found that one of the keys is not have it flash. Full-bore ON is the only meaningful state, at least at my studio. I once had someone walk in during a recording when I had a flashing light. Their excuse? "Oh, I didn't see that it said 'recording'. I just saw this blinking light and thought it looked pretty".

Sigh.

It took a minute, but my family finally "gets it". When the light it ON it means "there is no excuse good enough for anyone to be walking in that door" unless, of course, there's some kind of emergency.
