POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS FOR UPDATING LIBRARY

Not sure if this advice will help anyone but this is my setup and what I did to fix my issue. I had my iphoto 9 library stored on my NAS (qnap-nas). In the past with iphoto 9 I would access the library via SMB. I found that using AFP caused too many issues and the thumbnails etc... would never show up. Anyways, when I went to upgrade the library with iphoto 11, it would not update it and kept returning an error saying it could not update it. I then tried a couple things. First I re-connected to that folder on the NAS using AFP. I then repointed iphoto 11 to this library and it updated it fine. I then closed iphoto, rebooted and then launched iphoto 11 again and it worked fine. I then disconnected the drive and re-connected via SMB and pointed iphoto 11 to it and it still worked.

Now obviously if people have a similar setup, I guess for good measure, you could always back up the iphoto library to your hard drive on your computer "locally" and then make sure that library is in the photo library on the mac. Then try and do the update. If it works fine, then you could always put that library back on the NAS.
