How do you name a new event?

After I synched my iPhone, it auto split the events but I can't work out how to name them. They have a title "unnamed event", in older iPhoto you'd click on that to let it enter a name. Now it seems not to be an entry field.

I went to Events but the new "unnamed event" do not appear?

Any suggestions?

A lot... MacBook, MacMini, etc, Mac OS X (10.6.4), one of everything

*Old Toad,* I appreciate your efforts to help me so much.
However, after following your last instructions, I am still unable to name my latest import. I had exactly the same results as I had before using Disk Utility. Still couldn't disable that font--nothing worked.

Your instructions didn't give any joy, except that using Disk Repair seems to have cleared up something else!
Latest import still does not show up in Events.
However, the improvement is that I am now able to name the "untitled events" that were in my Events. Yay for that, at least.

I guess that I just have to wait to name the current "last import" til the time when they are superseded by the next import! How stupid is that?

Seems to me that Apple was so busy adding fancy new features to iPhoto that they lost sight of the things that made it so intuitive to use. I really hate this edition of iPhoto (am I repeating myself here?)

Thanks again for trying to help me.

I'm leaving *iPhoto 11* alone for awhile. I have wasted hours on it and still have not had the success I wanted. What worries me is that I think that I am a pretty good user of all my Apple software. If some Apple novice stumbles into this iPhoto that person is going to go raving mad, and furthermore will hate Apple.

Maybe it is time for me to just quit iPhoto and find something else to manage my photos!

I am having the same issue, but it I have a worse example.

I often use my iPad for research, downloading photos into it's photo album and then importing into iPhoto and making an event with keywords, but the problem now is that the photos are now sorted by date, and I don't know when these pictures were taken, and since they are no longer named untitled I have no way to search, except to manually go through my over 1000 events!

I was going to try using the search (anyone else hate the fact that you have to click to open the search box) and then change the event that way, but it won't let you!

I already left feedback with apple, but this is a huge mistake for me. I honestly have lost my most used functionality in iPhoto!

I can see a possible workaround until this gets fixed by Apple:

1 - view the photos in the Last Import album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change menu option rename the photos to what you want for better identification.
3 - use the same menu option to change the file date to whatever you want. If you use today's date the event should appear at the top or bottom of your events mode depending on your sorting selection.

Don't know if it way how I did the batch change the first time but it took a second attempt before the event ended up at the top of the Events mode.

This is a horrible feature that was left out when they created the new version. Here is a tip for those that are looking for their photos in the meantime. Do not look under U for Untitled. Instead, look under the letter for the month the photos were taken in. That is how Apple sorts them. Of course, if they are new photos you can also sort the Events by Date and scroll to the bottom to find your newest Event.

The place where this is really annoying is when you split an Event and forget to look at the date before going back to the main Events view.

I just came here to post because I'm having the same problem. So far in like half a dozen places all they did was take iPhoto and make it harder to use. And iPhoto was the only reason I bothered upgrading iLife. Complete waste of money. Everything is harder in iPhoto 11 and nothing is more convenient. What were the Apple developers thinking?

Click the untitled event in your photos library and it will select all photos under that event. Then drag it up to the event library. It will prompt you to create a new event. Then go over to the event library and look for your untitled event. Usually it will add the new event at the beginning of the stack or somewhere near that and not at the bottom. You can then rename your event from there. Tell me if this solves your problem.

So instead of naming events and organizing during import Apple decided to take a 1 step process and turn it into a 13 step process plus "hunt and look for your events?"

What on earth were the UI people thinking of? This is truly the worst software upgrade I ever got from Apple. I wish there was a way of returning the software, getting a refund and just returning to the last version of iPhoto.

Dear Old Toad,

Please don't loose heart with this problem and point us to the feedback site...us lesser motals need your help. When I import photo's that automatically split into events all I want to do is name the event WITHOUT having to go to the Events List. Why can't I do this???? I could with 9!! why would the developers remove this function AND why on earth would they then scatter untitled imports / split imports across the entire Events library...Are they seriously expecting heavy uses to spend the time scrolling through hundreds of events to find untitled events??? these untitled events aren't even searchable and if I did locate them via the search tool (that i now need to click on grrrrrrrr) I can't change the name...and if i locate the photo's via Last Import i STILL can't change the name from there.....What is going on..have Apple had a big bang on the head?????

Come on Old Toad please give me some hope that iPhoto will resume 'business as usual' some time soon????????

Si.

Hi Terence, LOL..no I suppose not, i was just having a rant at the stupidity of iPhoto 11!!

Thanks for the tip; This is a useful workaround.

Do you understand the frustrations iPhoto 11 users are having?

Why can't I "Tell a Friend" that I have posted a new album on MobileMe? why would Apple remove this great function?

Thank you.
