Question

Assign a place????

I can't add a location to images.
Yes I can go to the Map but not able to drop a pin....

Macbook Pro 2.66 + MB Black 2.2 + iMac 24” + Mac Mini Server, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I have noticed this too. Seems like you can only type an address, but you can't drop a pin to point the exact location. Either there's some other way to do this now or they made a newbie flaw.

Click on the Info button at the bottom and you'll find the Location area where you can add a location.

There may be a default location in there but click on the name and enter your location name:

Thanks for the tip. Tjeee they could not have made this one any more obscure huh.
Still it only allows me to assign a known location. And I can't allocated the image to the exact spot where I want it....

What if I'm all up in the mountains taking nature shots. Or if I'm hunting snakes in the desert? Which street should I put?

iPhoto lets you click and drag the pin to any position you'd like. You can zoom in or out in that "tiny" window and then drag the pin to the location of your choice. Or you can go to the large map, find the pin and move it to a more exact location.

You can click in the small right arrow in that small map window to go to the full Locations map and change pin locations there. Now that I think about it it's not too different from the "Manage my locations" feature in 09.

Can you set a Pin location for each individual photo WITHOUT defining a Place name? I don't really care about the Place names. I just want to put a pin on a map where I know a particular photo was taken.

No. But if you start dragging the pin to where you want, somewhat difficult in that small widow, the location title will change as you go over/by towns, parks, etc. Typing in the location, like a town, will get you there quickly where you can then fine tune the pin's location.

But is it easier now (in iPhoto '11 compared to iPhoto '09) to individually set a pin location for each photo, to mark exactly where you were standing when you took the photo?
