I currently own an ipod 20 gig which charges with an AC power adaptor. I also own an ipod nano which charges using a usb cable connected to the computer. My question is can the AC power adaptor that came with the ipod be used to charge the ipod nano?
No. They changed the wall adapters after some time. You need to buy a new one. I tried the same thing and my Ipod blacked out on me so I had to buy a new charger.
You can't use the Original chargers because they changed the cable. Now the cable for the computer is universal for the one on the charger as well. So, when you get a Nano, the cable won't fit into the charger, meaning you need to buy a new one.
If your a/c adaptor is one that connected via usb, then you can use it. If it's a firewire connection (there are two different power adaptors in circulation) you can still use it to charge the nano, but you would need to buy a firewire/dock connector cable.
There are two issues people have mentioned that tie together but are separate - the cable and the charger.
The 20gb iPod should have come with a dock to Firewire cable and the ac adapter should have a firewire connector. The Nano comes with a dock to USB cable and no ac adapter.
You CAN use the Firewire cable with the ac adapter to charge the Nano. You CANNOT sync the Nano with the firewire cable.
You can also get another adapter that has a USB connector, but the firewire adapter with the firewire cable should charge your Nano just fine.
