Help! Comcast not allowing email attachments in Safari

Hope someone can help solve this! Comcast has just changed the way you attach files to emails, and it doesn't work in Safari. When you click on "attach files" in the compose email window, you're taken to a new window where you select the files you want to attach -- but there it stops working. The system does work in Explorer, so clearly they didn't test it with Safari, or just decided to go forward without us. Has anyone had any luck resolving this? It just started yesterday.

Is there another web-based email system I can use with Comcast? Desperately don't want to switch to Explorer -- and I have noticed that Explorer crashes now everytime I try to use Comcast mail (even though attachments are working). Maybe a Mac/Comcast issue?

Welcome to Apple Discussions !!!!!!

Safari works just fine with Comcast. You don't have to worry about that.
I just tried attaching mail using my Comcast page, and it does work.
It's very very confusing though.

My attach files pane came up, automatically opened to Comcast photo center, where I have no photos stored.

The other tab "My Computer" will take you to your own computer set up. It took a while, but I finally found my desktop and did send something to myself as a test.

BUT, I have all my email accounts set up through the my Mac's Mail application. It's free and it comes with Macs. I just entered my email account names,(I have both Comcast & Earthlinnk) passwords, etc. in Mail's preferences, and I can send and receive through that, and never actually have to go to the Comcast page to do anything. You might want to check that out.

If you want more information on Mail
this is the forum for it. I found this very helpful
when I was setting up my Mail accounts.

Thanks for the replies. Bee, when I try to attach, I get the pane as you did, and without any trouble I can get to my own files. But after I select one and it shows up in the pane, I click on "attach" and it just says "attaching..." and doesn't get any further. I'm loathe to change my settings for Comcast mail, because I have it set up so that I can reach it with one click from my menu bar, bypassing the login etc. When I did that (and I can't remember now, how I did it exactly), I had to somehow bypass Apple mail. But I don't think that's the reason for this problem. The rest of my Comcast mail functions are working as usual.

About Firefox, can I set it up to receive email there? I hate to give up on Safari because I'm so accustomed to it.

Thanks

Just tried again.
I could not select "from my computer," as I could previously.

I have to say that once again,
Comcast, while it provide great High Speed Internet,
has lousy options for Mac users.

But, once again,
with the Apple Mail application,
despite any changes made by Comcast (or Earthlink)
I can always attach files with no problems whatsoever.

About other browsers:
I've tried Firefox, Mozilla, and others --
I've tried them all.
But like you, I really like Safari.
For getting out, I like Shiira the 2nd best.
But I have never had problems with email hooking up Comcast & Earthlink to Apple's Mail program. Never.

If you set up your Mail account to deal with your Comcast mail,
you won't have to worry about any of this.

EDIT: I see that disabling pop-up blocking helped you.
I tried it both ways, and it didn't work either time.
But if it fixed your problem, that's all any of us want 🙂
GOOD one, Owl 😉

Okay, now this is really spooky. If I enable Java, and Javascripts, then I can't attach, and the buttons to attach at the bottom of the page are missing. If I disable Javascripts, then the button reappears at the bottom of my new email message page. BUT, now I can't delete any of my e-mails without opening them, because the Trash function of Comcast is disabled. This is truly frustrating. I hope the tech support folks at Apple will get with the less than supportive Comcast folks ("we don't support Safari, try downloading IE").

As for setting up Mail, I got the email to come into the program just fine, but can't send anything out.

Why can't things just work?

If you can receive mail in Mail, then you have your basic account set up correctly. Open Mail's Account preferences and look at your account. Toward the bottom of the window is an entry for "Outgoing Mail Server (SMPT)". Try entering "smtp.comcast.net" (without the quotes). Close Preferences and send a test message to your self to see if you can now send out. If you want, you can click on my profile to find my email address and you can send me a test message. Let us know what happens.

BTW, I agree with ~Bee that Comcast is not the most Mac-friendly company out there. However, there have been improvements that make Macs work better with their site, but basically they are not conforming to accepted html/xhmtl standards.

As far as the javascript problem, you could try either Camino or Firefox which are not as finicky with non-standard coding of web pages as Safari is.

Well, I did a little more fiddling around, and now it seems to boil down to this: in both Firefox and Safari, I have to disable Java/Javascript to write responses in e-mail, and I have to enable them to add attachments. If I want the "move to folder", delete, and "previous/next" buttons to work, then I need Java/Javascript active. I have been reduced to manually switching and refreshing my pages in Comcast mail in order to accommodate this "new, improved" service.

The most frustrating part of all of this is that Comcast is a virtual monopoly in my area, and I teach a web-based class, so I need the speed. (But that's not the issue, just a gripe).

Is there any technician at Apple who can explain the conflict to Comcast, so that they can add an additional "improvement" so that my e-mail comes through without extraneaous numbers and symbols, in the place of spaces and formatting?
