Dell E176FP monitor won't work with os 9.2

Hi

I bought a dell 17 inch E176FP monitor but there is no display with my powermac g4 running os 9.2 It works fine when I plug it into my Dell inspiron laptop (awful product) and a smaller viewsonic model works fine with my G4. I've done a factory reset on the dell monitor when it was plugged into my laptop but that wasn't any help. On the mac, the os 9.2 screen comes up briefly, then all goes black and the monitor goes into standby mode. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

imac 24", Powermac G4, Mac OS 9.2.x

Then the display card, display, and cable are all working.

Only the settings used by the running system (substituted for the defaults once the system is initialized) are messed up.

Boot to a System/Install CD if you have one, and discard the Hard Drive's
System Folder > Preferences > Display Preferences (or Monitors Preferences or similar preference files).

These should be re-created next time you use the Control Panel, and the settings will be the defaults and you can proceed in a sensible way from there.
