APPLE TV 2010 SHARING USING NAS

I just purchased the new Apple TV unit and I have a IOMEG I-CONNECT that has an ITUNES Server, I can see the information in that NAS on my laptop, but the APPLE TV does not find it... even though it is on the same network... How can i point the APPLE TV to view the information on that drive?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

So I can only view items if I have my laptop on? that is not the function i was hoping to have, its unfortunate that i assumed that Apple would be able to do something that every other media device does now a days... I love MAC products, but sometimes they make things that should be simple, very complicated... I have networked storage drive for a reason, i have alot of movies on there not to take up the space on my laptop... is there anything going forward where this feature will be allowed, using UPNP or something?

I'm sorry for your problem, but glad you posted about this. I was getting ready to purchase the APTV2 and have set up at my house a NAS hard drive with all my iTunes files stored on there. I would have thought that I could point the APTV's Itunes account to where my library is stored and it would stream from there, but apparently not.

And from what I am seeing on all the boards, there are issues purchasing tv shows or movies. If things really take 300 minutes or whatever before I am able to watch, it seems like this product will be a waste of my time. I travel overseas and was wanting to utilize this for when I go to hotels and stuff, but with slower internet speeds, I'm fearing that streaming content isn't the best solution. I understand that it may be the future, but the networks that are in place now just don't have the speeds to support streaming content without issues. I'm thinking that it will be best to buy the products from iTunes, store them on my computer and then utilize home-sharing to stream instead.

Then again, I'm already reconsidering buying APTV2 now...maybe I should wait until some things are fixed!

I'm interested in buying the Apple TV product as well, but I have a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ on my home network with about 500 movies on it. I need it to work with this before I can buy it.

I did recently purchase an LG Blu-Ray player, and it instantly saw my NAS. It also supports Vudu, NetFlix and CinemaNow out of the box. The only thing I can't do is run iTunes with it. But it works well in my home theatre set up for playing movies.

So this may vear slightly off topic, but I was considering purchasing a NAS device to store my movies on. If I have a computer running iTunes (wireless) on all the time and point my library to the NAS (hardwired), would the APTV2 (wireless) be able to stream the content? By all logical means, that should work, but in reality, will the network support it?

Good question. If you are pointing the computer running iTunes to the Nas device, and then ATV2 to that computer using home sharing, in theory that should work.

My big problem is that I travel and want to take ATV2 with me. But it won't work in most hotels because it has to connect to the Internet in order for homesharing to work. Most hotels I travel to require me to connect to their wifi, and then enter in my login name and password at a login screen, which I won't be able to access from the ATV2.
