GarageBand 11 Latency

After updating to GB11, my guitar is pretty much unusable due to huge latency issues. I'm plugging directly into the the audio in, same as in GB 9. Issue persists after a restart w/GB the only running app.

MacBok Pro 2.4 gHz w/2 gb RAM

MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Hmmph. Unplugging the external monitor and using the MBPs built-in display seems to have solved it for now. Weird.

not me...on an iMac...and the latency is horrible....but no problems with Line 6's POD Farm2 - which just seems odd to me!!

Same brutal latency (half a second I would say) with a Intel Duo 2.4 GHz with 4Gb of RAM.

I also have Logic Pro installed and it works just fine.

THE FIX FOR THIS:
Well, not a fix, but a workaround:

Switch input sources (change from guitar to mic, then back again, or switch from built-in to System Setting then back, or from built-in to an external device, etc.).

This should fix it.
Seems like the problem occurs on the very first time you use guitar channel and monitoring? Not sure, but at least there's a way to make it go away...

To be specific:
Go to Garageband menu->Preferences-> Audio

Change Audio input (changing output may work as well) to something else, then change it back.
Problem should be gone.

You may have to do this again after restarting the machine and monitoring for the first time.

I did play around with /Garageband menu->Preferences-> Audio

BTW: The actual latency in GB11 is actually 2-4x better than the older versions of GB! They seem to have improved it quite a bit.

I have the latency issue as well (MacBook Pro, 2.53 Core 2 Duo with Pod Farm 2, Studio GX).
Quitting Garageband and then re-starting the program always resolves it for me. For whatever reason, the first time Garageband is started the latency is there, after quitting and re-starting it is always gone.

Yep, same exact problem here. I have to open GB 11 and then close it and re-open before the latency thing goes away. And, it does it every single time. I just tried changing the preferences > audio input to something else and back again. Hope it works.

Not really as I expected. That is, the previous post mentioned changing it back and forth and then restarting the mac. I did that, but I find that I still need to change the input from my midi interface to the built-in input and then back again. I guess I can live with it, but it's going to wear thin after a while.

Bought mac just because i thought that garage band is a good program. Total crap. Never works well , always has delays , bad sound.. Just makes me angry as ****. What’s the point to restart mac or do other annoying tricks just to make sure the product works? Waste of money

Should have bought a regular amplifier . store geniuses have no idea how to deal with it either. GARBAGE BAND! >:-{
