Java Virtual Machine & SPSS 18

Hi,

I'm getting the following error from SPSS 18.0.3 when I try to run descriptive statistics: Could not start Java Virtual Machine. Chart will not be drawn".

I need charts for my grad school assignment. I've never had this issue before, and since I've install the most recent patch, I think it must be an operating system error.

Any idea how to get SPSS to recognize/link up with JVM?

I have no idea how this works, so I need help!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I saw that, but I don't even understand the language used because I'm not a techie. I need simple steps on how to fix.

There are no simple steps. Follow those in http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20100123192950640, complain to SPSS for not updating their stuff, or revert back to an installation that has the old version.

Not really helpful attitude baltwo.

I've got a fix if you still need it.

I'm running PASW 18.0 and had the same issue generating charts after I updated apples java with the latest update.

drop me your email addy thewests if you still need a fix and I'll send across a file you'll need to get you back up and running.

I also cannot solve the problem. Tried changing jvmcfg.ini with this new VM location info ( http://bit.ly/9uVp8D) but without success, I cannot draw graphs.

Would like to try your fix, if possible.

I am having the same problem and have raised a case with SPSS regarding this. Still no response from them yet and am desperate to get my SPSS back up and running.

The problem is, if you updated to Java Update 3 by Apple from Software Update or otherwise, you will not be able to use the Java engine on SPSS. Open a case number with SPSS tech support. There is a fix in the works, that is not yet available for direct download.

Hey dukedinger, I'm having the same problem...I have PASW 18.0 and am unable to draw graphs. I'd really like the fix that you have as well, but your e-mail address is not listed here. How can I contact you to get it?

If you list your e-mail address here, do not use the @ symbol. It is a publicly accessible forum, meaning the internet bots may grab it and send it to a spammer for use.
