I can't get my TV to play streaming Netflix movies from my iPad - any

I can't get my TV to play streaming Netflix movies from my iPad - the TV recocgnizes the iPad is attatched via an HDMI port but does not recognize any of the content (music, pictures, movies, etc.). I am currently attaching via the iPad/iPod cable directly into th HDMI port and use the TV input button to identify the port. Any suggestions? Thanks

Mac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I have the answer to this issue - I have been trying to figure this issue out for the last month. Everyone is half right, but half wrong.

The issue is NOT your cable, as long as you are using the Apple AV accessory. The issue is that every Ipad/Itouch/Iphone application chooses whether to allow video playback or not.

If you were hoping to display any image from your ipad to the television like I was with my itouch, you will be disappointed. Netflix does not have the playback option and HULU charges $8/mo. for their application (hulu plus)... so the only purpose of the Apple AV cable is to display Youtube on your television OR movies already stored on your ipad.

Netlix might wise up someday and allow for video playback, but for the time being, we are limited with the use of the AV cable. I hope this helps.

Let's be clear here, the iPad's video out function (to a TV) most certainly DOES work with Netflix. I've watched quite a few movies on my TV by using the Netlfix app on my iPad. But you do need the correct cable, either Apple's component AV cable or the VGA adapter.

However, there are apps that don't support video out on the iPad, notably the ABC app and Hulu Plus.

Just a note. I have the Apple Composite AV Cable and that works with Netflix as well.

It's also worth noting that it has been reported that the VGA adapter does NOT work for viewing iTunes protected content (movies and TV shows bought/rented from the iTunes Store). In fact, the only AV cable that I've actually used with my iPad is the Apple Component AV cable. That works with Netflix and the protected iTunes content.
