Well said Techgoose. We should all know better but sometimes backups just slip by month by month

You're incorrect that they don't read this. They read them all. I've gotten calls from three different Apple engineers in the past three days because they saw my post here. They're very nice and I can tell they're working hard to fix this problem.

None have contacted me and I would really appreciate a phone call of apology and a fix.

I was one of the unlucky ones to upgrade to iPhoto 11 a few days after it came out. NEVER AGAIN! I just have found out that precious photos that I've had for many years are now gone, all thanks to the less than pathetic low quality assurance work by the Apple staff to ensure that their software actually works and doesn't simply go ahead and delete data without checking with the user first, or at least doing a local backup.

I've got over 16,000 photos and at this stage I haven't counted up how many are deleted. The iPhoto software won't tell me how many I've lost because it only cares about thumbnails, not the originals. I've now only got low res thumbnail pictures as memories of when my daughters were born. Because everything looked fine after the initial upgrade I carried on with my normal backups ... and now I've lost those irreplaceable photos.

Thank you very much Apple. Please take the time to thank the abysmal quality checking team for their usual low grade work. In fact, give them a raise. They deserve it. Seriously though, what the H*LL were you guys thinking?!!

In order to get back the deleted photos you should stop using the device from which you wanted to recover the photos, so that you can avoid further loss of photos. Use Mac photo recovery software to *restore deleted photos* and the most important thing is that do not save the recovered photos onto the same device so that the deleted photos get over written. Taking these necessary precautions you can recover photos easily and quickly.

I had this problem where i lost my entire library and panic and no backup.  I thought i was screwed as i have my wedding, honeymoon and other travels and most importantly my daughters photos.  I was shattered.

I checked my trash and and found the iPhoto Library and placed it back onto my desktop.  All my photos were back when i doubled clicked from the desktop.  Hope this helps everyone.  ALL HAPPY AGAIN.

Where are the Apple Geek replies on this one.  After losing half of my 10,000 pic ILbrary as a punishment for purchasing a new IMac and loading Lion. I wqould like to have some concrete information on what has been done and what is being done.

My photos aren't deleted, but I can't find them when I need to upload them.

I have them in an event, but that event isn't showing up in photos.  All the other events that are older are.  I have had this problem with not being able to find the "most recent upload", but now it is not showing the last few events.

When I go directly to iPhoto, it is there.  If I copy the pictures I want to upload onto my desktop, it is ONLY copying the thumbnail.

Where are the four photos I need right now?

That is the problem with threadjacking - you need to start a new thread with specific details about your specific system and your specific problem

and it works better not to attack and add stupid editorial comments like "as a punishment" - the users here have a lot of experiance and if you take the time to calmly describe things there probably is a solution for you

How are you "copying" the pictures to the desktop? The best way is to select them and export (file menu ==> export)

I apologize and will not post a question about where my photos are in a thread that is titled "where are my photos"

    Again, I am sorry.

I have tried to delete my inappropriate comment, but have been denied access.  Please remove this.  It is not my intention to be inflammatory.

Once again we are just users here  we can not remove posts

With reference to LN"s inappropriate admonitions on forum phrasing of comments; I positioned my comment in the exact thread I felt it belonged. My experience was almost identical.  My valid question was simply " where are the "real"Apple guys" on this issue.  If LN feels he might have something to offer he should focus on the issue of disappearing photos and whether this is an IPhoto 11 issue instead of intimidating people like Texas-holly into apologising profusely for being upset that Apple has a bug they are not addressing.

When I upgraded to iPhoto 11 it deleted ALL of my photo modifications going back years.  Over one thousand Photoshopped photos representing hundreds of hours.  And it also deleted every clip fo video to boot.  Just this week it deleted some scans from my Nikon slide scanner, about 100 of them that were added two months ago!  This stinks!
