Turning Off

Just got my new apple TV and I absolutely love it!

I was just wondering if the device turns off or if it only goes to sleep. i.e. does it make a difference if I hold the centre button on the remote or put it to sleep in the settings.

Also, does certain content take more bandwidth or is it all the same (I know HD is more than SD obviously but I meant like netflix vs iTunes vs homesharing etc)

Thanks

Hi,
from what I know it only goes to sleep and doesn't turn off. To me that kind off *****, as it only reloads its cache when it has been turned off completely.

Afaik Netflix is only SD, so a movie should be around 1gb. iTunes HD content takes about 2-4gb per movie but SD is the same as Netflix. Netflix adjusts its file size depending on your connection though, so if you have low bandwith it should work, just has worse quality.
Homesharing only takes local network bandwith, and it just streams whatever files you want to watch, so if you want to know how much it is, just look at your files in iTunes.

Hope I could help 🙂

Are you sure it only reloads the cache after turning off..that seems a bit off. That would mean that it would become sluggish at a certain point.

Netflix isn't only SD, there is some content available in HD..but you have to search on the website to see because it doesn't say on the ATV. I am familiar with those figures was just curious to know if one service was more intensive than others..because I know Netflix uses the variable streaming (like you mentioned) whereas iTunes content doesn't. But it sounds like 1GB/hr for HD is the norm, which is what I thought anyway.

Thanks for the help
