Having troubles with the Instant On-feature.

I bought the new Macbook Air (13", 1.86Ghz, 256GB) this weekend and I am having troubles with the instan on feature.

The problem is that when the lid has been closed, without the computer turned off, and then opened it happens that it won't get out off sleep mode. The computer stays in sleep mode even when the lid is up. It does not matter if I press any buttons it won't turn on. I have to hold down the power button until it turns off then reboot it.

This has happened a lot, out of the approximate 20 times I have closed it this has happened about three or four times.

One time when I opened the lid the screen turned on but it was completely fixed and I could not move the mouse or use the keyboard.

When I have rebooted the system I get the message saying that it was turned off due to implications and I have the option to report the problem which I have done.

What should I do now? Should I return it to the store where I got it or should I wait and see what happens?

Thanks in advance.

I would take it back to the Apple Store (consider calling ahead and making an appointment with a 'Genius')

I am not from America so I can't bring it to a 'Genius' but I can call Apple and see what they say. But I have called the store where I got it and got told to come by when the manager was in so that I can trade it in for a new one.

Hopefully I won't have to wait and send it in. If the product is this new, I bought it this Saturday, I should get a new product directly, right?

Sadly, only the store can answer that question for you. Everyone has a different return policy, not to mention if they don't have the machine in-stock when you bring it in then they won't be able to swap it out with a new one.

My 11" inch unit has done the same as the original poster, ie wake from sleep and trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive. Need to press the power button to force a shutdown and reboot. It's only done this once so far.

Generally these type of issues are firmware or software related rather than hardware - so I guess I will wait for more information and hope for a fix to download.

Anyone had any response from Apple on this issue?

Another 11.6 Air doing the same here. As others have said it is intermittent and happens when in sleep mode, when sleep has been instigated by closing of lid and also when system has automatically entered sleep after designated time.

I really hope that it is a software/firmware issue, but I'd have thought that there would be more reports of it on various forums if it was affecting the majority of users?

Has anyone obtained any info from Apple regarding this? I'm going to give them a call myself, but I'm pretty sure that they will just offer me an exchange as it appears that it hasn't yet been officially recognised as a widespread software/firmware issue by Apple yet.

My 11 inch was fine, for 3 days, but then...(I started my own thread on this) http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12522484#12522484

did not start from sleep mode.

repeatedly started to a blank blue screen.

after being on 10 minutes after 3 hard shut down restarts, it went to a black blank screen and powered off.

did not fully charge in sleep mode.

when turned off and unplugged with a full charge, after 50 hours the battery was practically drained.

It is very sad since the machine is beautiful and just what I needed. It is now unfortunately, back in the hands of apple who when called did not have a clue as to what could be causing it, waiting to be refunded. Once refunded I will simply go to a macbook pro 13 inch...sigh!

gosh darnit.
