Anyone solved this problem yet, cause CUPS is written by Apple it should be possible to print from the iPad to a printer connected to a Linux machine with CUPS running. Ubuntu for example comes with CUPS preinstalled, so any printer connected to a PC with Ubuntu installed should be accessible through a Local network (router).
Again CUPS is Apple's own (open source) product, but yet I am unable to print through it from the iPad, even though other Linux machines on my network will automatically discover the CUPS print servers on my network and print to them, my iPad can't use another Apple technology to print. It is so ironic.
iPad,
iPhone OS 3.1.3,
I'm not dumb (Ubuntu Guru, CS degree, etc)
Yes, but printing to CUPS from a app, I don't care if the iPad doesn't support it until 4.2 it seems Apple is inept at offering quality support, that's what apps are for. Note that they do not offer reviews on the app store for their own apps, if they don't want to be accountable, why should we expect quality solutions of them?

Wrong, Apple has Customer Reviews for their products on the App store just like any other App Store product.
Are you just making up your assertions? Or, perhaps, you are, "in your CUPS"?
Apple is not responsible for functions of 3rd party apps on the app store. They are simply responsible for making sure the app works the way it claims to (not the way you think it should) and for iOS and the hardware. A 3rd party printing app not supporting CUPS is not Apple's fault, nor should they be held responsible for forcing said 3rd party to support it just because you think they should. If waiting until November for Apple to provide printing support is out of the question for you, perhaps the iPad is not the right device for you...
Solution.. But don't be a Apple fanboy (or girl).. I'm an ex-amiga owner, and Ubuntu freak, the protective motherly nature of the Apple user community, doesn't help us iPad owners.
Looks like progress.. Can't wait to see how good (or bad) 4.2 is.. BTW, I just printed about 26 baby photos, and they all came out perfectly with very little change in settings (Photo paper + Bright Colors), in Ubuntu Linux 10.4, using "gthumb Image Viewer" and they came out perfectly on my Epson Photo R340. No brightness/contrast adjustments.. It will be cool if the iPad can make use of the same print server (natively). As it should.. I mean after all CUPS was Apple's creation.
Again, wait and see with the release of iOS 4.2. Apple is not responsible for 3rd party solutions, so until their solution is released, you have no legitimate gripes. After it is released, if it does not support it, then you have a legitimate gripe...

I believe that CUPS was developed by Michael Sweet (Easy Software Products) back in 1997. Apple purchased the CUPS source code in 2007 from Easy Software Products.
