AUDIO POPS/CRACKLES USING USB INTO PIONEER 3200BT - IPHONE 3GS W/ iOS 4.1

APPLE PLEASE FIX AUDIO POPS/CRACKLES WHEN USING USB CONNECTION INTO PIONEER CAR STEREOS WITH IPHONE OS 4.1!!!

From what I've read on these forums this is a common issue that many are experiencing and has yet to be fixed.

I use an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.1. I recently installed a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT into my 1997 Ford Explorer XLT this week, and when the iPhone is connected to the deck and playing music through the USB interface there's random pops/crackles/static/digital noise constantly introduced into the audio signal. The problem exists when using the iPod feature of the phone, and when trying to listen to Pandora off the phone. I tried my friends iPhone which had an older OS on it and it played without the pops and crackles that I hear when I use my phone. I can play CD's perfectly, and the radio works perfectly also, so I know it's not a defective head unit. It seems completely random. It almost sounds like you're trying to play a CD with scratches on it. I'm ready to throw my phone out the window!! The whole reason I bought the Pioneer deck was to play my music off of my phone in full digital quality, not through some crappy 1/8 inch headphone jack connection. I woulda stuck with my old stock cassette deck with my trusty 1/8-cassette cable and saved myself the money and all these headaches if I woulda known it wasn't going to work correctly. This set-up is basically unusable like this without going crazy!! 😟 I've been a loyal Apple customer for years, but if this doesn't get fixed soon I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER MAC PRODUCT AGAIN. THIS IS BAD BUSINESS! It says compatible with iPod/Works with iPhone right on the box!! LIARS! What a joke I'm so disappointed! PLEASE FIX ASAP APPLE BEFORE I GIVE UP ON YOUR PRODUCTS!

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS, WORK-AROUNDS FOR THIS PROBLEM? I've tried resetting my phone, the head unit, different USB cables, and at this point I'm stuck. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Sorry, I'm sooooo frustrated with this right now! Thanks in advance everyone! 🙂

iPhone 3GS w/ iOS 4.1, iOS 4, iOS 4.1 = FAIL.

Just wanted to thow myself into the mix also. Just installed a new Alpine head unit cda-105 with new amp and speakers. It was running awesome for about a month. Just yesterday the crackling and pops have started sounded. I also have no problems with the sirius installed or playing a cd. I have not upgraded my ipod touch 4th generation at all and am running version 4.2.1. Apple needs to fix this issue asap. I have a feeling a lot of people are having this problem and do not know that it is their ipod. Apple pull your crap together and look into this, it is unacceptable after paying 300 plus...

I recently noticed the crackling noise in my 2011 Honda Civic speakers when plugging my iPhone 4 into the built-in USB. I am running iOS 4.4.3. I really hope Apple fixes this with the next update! It's very annoying because I just now got used to using the USB instead of the AUX port in my car. I had a hard time with being able to find my playlists without using the iPhone itself. I finally got over the struggle and then, I noticed a popping noise when driving home one night... I feel you guys' frustration.

I also have the same problem. New IPhone 4, one week old.

My IPod Touch plays through the USB cable in my Honda Insight 2010 throught the USB connection with no problems whatsoever - very crisp and clear sounds.

My new IPhone is running version 4.3.3. When I play the same songs on the IPhone through the Honda USB connection, it sounds like the recordings are taken from old 33RPM records - snap, crackle pop.

Other than that, this is a great phone, but come on Apple - IPod functionality is fundamental!!! That's your bread and butter!!! Get on the ball and get this fixed!!!

Well, I found a $45 work-around. I purchased the BlackBerry BlueTooth Stereo Gateway from Amazon. This allows me to send my audio wirelessly from my iPhone to my audio input in my Honda Insight. The audio is crisp and clear! All is not perfect though, as my car does not recognize my "handsfree link" all the time now. It seems like the bluetooth signals (Stereo Gateway vs. Handsfree Link) are competing with each other. I hope to have this figured out (one way or another) in the next few days. If I turn off one of the bluetooth connections on the iPhone, the other works flawlessly. But - I'd like to have them both working equally. Bottom line, this approach cleans up the audio from the iPhone considerably.

I seem to have solved the problem...for me at least anyway.

Got my new itouch 64gb 4th gen yesterday and played it through my Sony (Made for ipod) car headunit yesterday. To my dismay the 33rpm vinyl pops and crackles were there. itouch came with 4.3.3 already installed by theway.

After trawling through various forums about this problem I did the following differently today and the pops and crackles are gone!

1) I installed the itouch in a gel case.

2) Used the old USB lead with the larger end that goes into the actual ipod.

3) Left the itouch completely switched off overnight.

I don't know how this has made a diffrence but it has solved a very big issue for me.

Hopefully this can help somebody else.

I really hope they fix this with a new update. I'm really disappointed my iPhone never did this before and I really thought my speakers were broke so I had new ones installed. When I saw this discussion it really upset me. My iPhone is version 4.3.3 8J2 and I never thought it could be the update. I'm glad I didn't buy a new head unit in my car cause I almost did thinking my USB part was broke. So for now I'm using my old 30g iPod which don't sound as well as the IPhone used to for me -_-

Please apple fix this problem. : (

This issue is quite perplexing indeed. I had thought my sync cable had been through a little too much wear and tear and was thus causing the cracking and popping noises. I have a 5 month old 2011 Honda Insight EX with navigation.

My iPhone 4 is running iOS 4.3.5 (8L1) and up till yesterday, 8/12/2011 the popping and cracking noises were minimal, now they're quite clear and... well... not something I expect from a digital player.

Knowing this it saves me from having Honda take a look at the USB interface.

Hey folks, thank god I'm not the only one suffering this issue. Popping started subtly yesterday on my HR-V's Kenwood system, and has become progressively worse. Since the popping and crackling is still apparent regardless of the audio volume, I figured the speakers were fine.

I plan to experiment with it tomorrow, and I'll report back.

Wish me luck. :-/

Hi;

wow seems it is not just me or the wiring. I have a iPhone with iOS5 and confirm the exact same issues. My setup is:

Alpine CDA 105

USB cable

Rockford Fosgate AMP

Alpine speakers and sub

All the wiring was triple checked and is of high quality. We ran tests with CD, Radio, and a different phone (non Apple) and only the iPhone has the crackling and popping. Does not matter if the car is running or not, as we tried to elimainte comon grounding and Alternator issues that some installs have. We are 99% sure it is the iPhone and not the wires or sound system.

I can only imagie it is either faulty HW in the iPhone or Software. I know the iPhone tries to cut corners with transeivers and other parts to keep the costs inside the stratoshepre. So, maybe the phone is simply not "good" on USB output. Playing in headphones in the mini jack is fine.

Is there any way to open a trouble tcket with Apple? I mean this seems to be a problem for many people here, and probably many more that simply have not been in the forums. Apple and iPhones are a massive ecosystme, so I hope it does not get lost in the wind. Having a support case opened?

Regards,

Jon
