Yes, and it's because Apple designed it to only work with an MBA. It won't even work on another Mac.

It's designed to work only with MacBook Air (All models) and the 2010 Mac mini.

It runs on my Mac Mini, at least it does on my Snow Leopard server box that doesn't include an optical drive. It also runs on my 24" Apple Cinema Display and I see no reason why the 27" wouldn't support it as well.

Don't buy one except for your MBA or Mac Mini...the superdrive does NOT work with any other Mac computer, and certainly with NO PC's. (Incidently, when they first came out a few years ago, the superdrives worked for a very short time with Macbook Pros...they do not work with the updated versions although there are sporadic reports of some people getting them to work.)

It never ceases to amaze me how companies limit their products to working with only certain machines. Doesn't that encourage fewer people to buy it? I could rant all day about companies doing this (Apple and others), but I'll just leave it at this for now.

I can confirm it does work with a Mac Mini but not a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro.

Whats funny is that the drive works perfectly on windows running on any mac in bootcamp mode (or VM with boot camp drivers installed),

So it is basically the Apple's OS X driver which is blocking other macs from accessing the drive. I fail to understand why would they do this?
