I realize this camera isn't supported yet, so my question is really how long does it typically take Apple to begin supporting new RAW files after a camera's release? It's been about two months for this one :/ Month? Two months? Three months? Is a pattern documented anywhere?
Photoshop has supported the 60D for about a month now. That's frustrating.
It's varied but for Canon and Nikon cameras it's usually within a few months. A documented pattern wouldn't really help as you can't accurately predict the future of software releases by reading the past 🙂
Perhaps not, but a list that tracks the release date of a camera, and the subsequent software update supporting said camera, would be sort of interesting to see...
I would be interested in seeing anything history of release dates and RAW file support dates also. I am a newbie with only a S95 but also interested in when Apple will release RAW support for my camera [it came out approximately the same time as the 60D]. I have been advised to be patient...it will happen. My issue is that I download a 30 day trial of Aperture before I realized at the moment I can only try it out on jpegs, not RAW. I just hope it happens before my 30 trial runs out.
I did put in a request through the Aperture comment function but was advised it was probably unnecessary since Apple is well aware of new Canon and Nikon cameras.
After the 50D was released in '08, Apple added support with a Digital Camera Compatibility Update on Nov 5, 2008. Sometimes the extra raw support is in the point updates for the Mac OS - supposedly 10.6.5 is coming soon...
Add my voice to the crowd. I've got some 60D RAW files I want to work on. I don't want to buy and learn the interface and workflow of Lightroom as a stopgap.
Put down the iOS pipe and work on something for the pros.
I simply updated to 10.6.5 using the combo update (downloaded and then installed, didn't use Software Update in System Prefs). Aperture now recognizes and displays my CR2 raw files from my 60D. These are the full size Raw files, not sRaw files (which I don't use and so can't comment on).
Well you have me fooled, I have been running 10.6.5 ever since it came out along with Aperture 3 with the latest update. My 60D RAW images will not appear. I believe it is an Aperture update required and not the OSX system
This update extends RAW image format compatibility to Aperture 3, iPhoto ’09, and iPhoto '11 for the following cameras:
Canon EOS 60D
Canon PowerShot S95
Hasselblad H4D-40
Nikon D3100
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
Sony DSLR-A290
Sony DSLR-A560
Sony DSLR-A580
Sony SLT-A33
Sony SLT-A55
