I need to transcribe a few hours of audio. I see a lot of speech recognition software out there that will cost more to buy than for me to pay somebody to type the audio in. Is there any economical software out there that really works - that I can feed a .wav or .mp3 file to and it'll convert it to text?

Do you have an iPhone or iPad? If so, check out the Dragon Dictation app. It may not meet your needs, but it can't hurt to try - I think it is still free.

On the Mac there is only Dragon Dictate from MacSpeech.com.

I would recommend you to stick with the manual transcription due to the accuracy flaws in even the most expensive software. You can fix up a provider for better pricing but do not move over to any software for sure.
