ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi there im sure you all know by now I am totally crap at this.

I used to work on pc with adobe prem ele 7. I have a video booth company which operates from Ireland. I have edited a wedding on i movie and loved the themes and the ability to add themed and dissolve for e.g transitions. Also it was easy to add funky titles to my project. The problem is the loss of quality to titles and clips e.t.c when played back on a tv. ( no problem with adobe- just that the titles etc look rubbish compared to imovie- and im sure fce4) I deal with around 150 clips ranging from 15 - 45 secs they just need to be trimmed have scene markers transitions and titles then burned to disc.
My FCE4 turned up yesterday but unfortunately not the tutorial book I ordered with it, so im just wandering if you can put my mind at rest.....
i understand that FCE4 is more of a precision editing tool but has it set titles themes etc.
I imported from a usb this morning some clips from the video booth into FCE4 that was grand the problem is they are all muddled up ie the end of the night is at the start and the start of the night is at the end. In adobe you could select " oldest first " and it would re order the clips for you. ( the video booth kind of tells a story of the reception side of the wedding and also acts as interactive guestbook so its important that the finished dvd is in the order that the messages are left
I guess that the tutorial book ( and some from izzyvideo - which is still downloading due to my cacky irish internet speeds) will help but guess im just asking the pros out there if FCE4 will make my life easier for what i want to do or am I better off with adobe prem ele7

Hope all makes sense and I have had great help on this discussion site before so many thanks

Hello Tim,

FCE does not have pre-designed titles or themes (such as in iMovie). However, LiveType, which comes with FCE, does have pre-designed template media you can use to create your own fancy titles.

Regarding your imported clips, where are they 'muddled'? Are you talking about the list of clips that is in the FCE Browser? Or have you put clips into a sequence (timeline)? You can sort the list in the FCE Browser by going into List view and clicking on a column title; however the shoot date/time is not available to sort on - although the "Last Modified" column may be sufficient to sort the list for your purposes.

What exactly is the type of media from your video booth? (File type, codec, etc)

Tim - thanks for the helpful star, but I was editing my note at the same time you were reading it!

In the FCE Browser (list view), scroll all the way to the rightmost column (Last Modified) - provided these dates are when the clips were created by your video booth (whatever that is), you may be able to use it to sort your clips into the order you want (by date/time). Click the column name to sort the list of clips ascending or descending according to the values in that column.

Hi thanks for reply

Yup the clips in the browser are muddled, does that mean i have to manually sort them out, cus that alone would leave me to down tools with FCE and go back to the nightmare crashing ADOBE PREM ELE 7!

Also i'm not up to scratch with the spec side of things for my video booth but I hope this is what you were asking for.

Camera: PAL 720 x 576 @ 25 fps
Video Formats : Full quality: AVI, MPEG
Web quality: WMV, Flash, Quick time

Thanks for your time MartinR

What I'm hoping is that the camera time stamped the video clips as it shot them and the values in the Last Modified column reflect those time stamps. If that is the case, then sorting on the Last Modified column should put the clips in first-to-last or last-to-first order according to date/time. Clicking the column header multiple times causes the list to be sorted ascending or descending order based on the values in the column.

Once the clips are listed in the proper order, you could select all the clips at once and drag them to the timeline and they should be in the proper order in your FCE sequence (timeline).
