Running 2 Midi Keyboards Into Mainstage - Midi Signals Get Mixed Up

Hi there,

I'm running two midi keyboards into Mainstage 2 on a Macbook Pro. My midi interface is the Midisport 4x4 Anniversary Edition, and my audio interface is the Metric Halo ULN-2.

I want to run my setup as if each keyboard was a different sampler, so I've set up each keyboard in Mainstage's layout. Each physical keyboard runs into a different channel on the midisport, and in mainstage, each keyboard has its own sustain pedal, a control pedal, a pitch bend wheel, and a modulation wheel. I linked each physical controller to it's software equivalent by the Learn feature.

I set up 2 different software instruments in Mainstage– one controlled by the first keyboard and the 2nd controlled by the 2nd keyboard.

The issue is that the sustain pedal, the control pedal, the pitch bend, and the mod wheel of one keyboard affects the sound of the other keyboard's sampler, and vice versa. Do you have any idea why this is, and how to prevent it?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), Mainstage 2

This should work... does the on screen sustain pedal respond to both keyboards? If so, then there is something wrong with the assignment in layout mode, and you might want to try re-learning the assignment there.

If what you are hearing is only in the audio, did you put the channel strip on to the correct keyboard? You need to use choose which of the two keyboards the layer (which is associated with the channel strip) appears on. If you are seeing layers appear on both keyboards, then you will hear sounds from both keyboards.

When you play notes on the keyboard, does it only affect one or both channel strips? Maybe there is some issue with what channel the sustain pedal is sending on? Maybe they are both sending on the same channel?

So you just turned Midi Thru for each layout object to "Do Not Pass Through"?

Then did you have to map each item in the edit view to what you wanted to control?

How do you set the sustain pedal to sustain the current keyboard's instrument? Is it by mapping to Midi controller 64?

Thanks, I'm just midi-inept at the moment.
