Q: RayV Player

I have a window popping up on my screen saying 'This version of RayV Player is not supported anymore," I have never installed or asked that it be installed. Their website says its an app for watching TV on line. I don't want to click on the "check" option and download a virus. The other option is "later". Have you heard of it and is it safe to update?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.7), iMac

    HI,

Have you heard of it and is it safe to update?

    No.

I have never installed or asked that it be installed

You can't update software you never installed.

I have never installed it to my knowledge. When i search for the app in finder nothing comes up. How do you stop the window popping up asking me if I want to update it?

RayV is supposed to be a plugin in your browser. So you can disable or remove it there. You may have installed it for watching tv or video on a web site to view sports events or game play.

Disable it in your browser plug-in managing window

Erase RayV in Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-ins

Erase RayV agent in Hard drive/Library/application support

So RayV is not a virus but it can make your computer act as a P2P server for tv viewing. So it can use your bandwidth... good idea to erase it if you don't use it.

There is a well hidden uninstall option within the RayV Player. Click on the RayV icon in your menu bar (on the top of the screen). Select "Preferences". Then click on the "About" tab. There, you will see the "Uninstall" button.

Also if you look up in your Apple menu bar to the right you'll see a square box with red sweeps in it (near your sound/time/magnifier). This is the RayV plugin. Click on it and under support you can easily find the uninstall option. However, even if you use their uninstall the two library files still remain. You'll have to delete them manually as per the instructions from above:

Erase RayV in Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-ins

Erase RayV agent in Hard drive/Library/application support
