Q: Adding Asset to Existing Production

I have checked out the clips, one at a time, imported to my FCP project and checked everything back in. Does this not duplicate the proxies in FCS?

DUH! After adding to the cache I can, indeed, simply drag the clip (or "asset") into the FCP browser window. So obvious as to seem impossible. The structure of this whole program (FCS) is slowly coming into focus. Am I correct in that it is organized along the lines of a database and that the nomenclature comes from that world? Assets, elements, cache etc are new to me as I am used to thinking in clips, timelines, capture scratch folders and the like, all on a self contained edit station. The cache is the local storage area on my client (edit station) where the edit proxies live, is that correct?

I have received and started working with the book cited above and so far I am quite pleased, it's very helpful. One question I have not seen answered is can FCS scan devices for Productions? I see how you can scan a device for assets like .mov's and .aif's, and I assume you could scan for .fcp's no?

Yes, after scanning in a FCP project I was assuming that I would make it the basis of a "production" on FCS and purge it from it's local storage device.
