Front Camera Horizontal Reverse Photo

Hello, I've been searching high and low and have yet to find an answer to this, and it's driving me nuts. I realize the camera app auto-mirrors the realtime view of the front camera, and that when you take a photo, it actually takes it normal. I understand that under normal circumstances, you'd want it mirrored when using Facetime or whatever. The problem with this is, I want to see what I'm actually photographing, not a mirror image of it, while I'm taking the photos. Is there any apps out there that allow you to see the actual camera output while taking photos rather than the mirrored view. I have found a few mirror apps that let you see it with no mirroring, but they don't take photos. Very frustrating, this seems like it should be really easy to do, can anyone help?

If you are still looking for this, check the app store for an app called "Reverse for front facing camera - Self Photo." It is currently free.

By the way, this is not a bug. Apple went to some trouble to make it work this way as it is easier for many people.

Talk Photo or Check Me Out (Posture Analyzer)

has the fix you all are looking for.

The Front and Rear Cameras have features that allow you to FLIP from Reflection to Non-Reversed.

You can make the camera split screen for both Reflection and Non-Reversed at the same time.

You can Invert the Rear Camera and Split Screen it too.

There is a Zoom on it with the Pinch gesture.

Check Me Out (Posture Analyzer) has been out for almost 1 year. It's Check Me Out's 1 year birthday on September 4th.

The Iphone version works on the Ipad, but the ipad version is more optimized for the ipad.

Enjoy. I would love your feedback about the app.

The same thing is true with the ipad. Front camera is mirror image and though not a big problem when used with facetime or the such, it does present a MAJOR problem when trying to use the iPad as part of a point of sale device. Greatest problem is that the front camera cannont be used to scan barcodes as they are reversed and then fails to read the bar code. All apple would have to do is to add a slide control for front camera normal or mirrored.

Yeah, still haven't found an answer to this question, and most people don't seem to even understand what I'm saying. The iPhone 4 front camera is displayed mirrored while you are taking the photo. Open you camera app displaying the front camera. Look close; when you move it to your left, the display moves left, just like yore looking in the mirror. If it wasn't mirrored, it would move right when you move the phone left. Once the photo is taken, it shows it non-mirrored in the photo library. I want it to show it non-mirrored while I'm taking the photo so I can see it as it will actually look after taking it. Basically, I want to see exactly what the front camera sees, not the mirror image, in real-time while taking the photo.

Please, if you don't know what I'm talking about, then I'm sure you don't have the answer. I'm not interested in a discussion of the merits of each, I just want to know if an app exists that can do this. I can't believe this is such a pain to find.

I understand exactly what you are meaning here, but I think this is hardware issue or "feature", there is no apps can do what you're looking for!

I don't think the front-facing camera does anything strange or unexpected. It behaves the same as the rear-facing camera. It only looks like it's behaving like a mirror because it's facing in the opposite direction to the rear camera. If you look at the preview you can see on the screen and imagine yourself going around to the back of the phone, everything is correctly oriented. I think a camera that worked the 'opposite' way would be even more confusing.

How about if Apple just adds a button while using the front facing camera that flips the image horizontally. That way you can decide whether you want to see your "reflected" image on screen or your true image (the way other people see you). Then you could really make your hair look perfect!

That would be greeeeaaaaaat.... mmm kay?
