SD Card slot and a Sony memory card!!

Any multi-format USB card reader will handle Memory Sticks. There is no way to use the SD Card slot to read them.

You can use like any flash storage device.

If it is not for camera use, you can reformat it for your needs with Disk Utility.

If it has large enough capacity you can use it as a bootable OS

The article is about using a USB Flash drive it would be the same for an SD card.
The one caveat is use the original install DVD that shipped with your Mac for the OS.

If you're talking about a Memory Stick — to my knowledge, the only kind of memory card Sony makes — you can't use it with the SD card slot. The slot is only for SD cards. Use a USB card reader instead.

I wonder whether Sony is finally going to give up on the Memory Stick format, which is used in few if any products except Sony's own, and gradually switch its camera lines over to use SD cards instead. SD is rapidly becoming the dominant memory card format.

sony is starting to make some cameras that take both, for example my sony dsc-hx5v takes memory sticks and sd cards. i have been using sd cards only, just so i can put them in my macbook pro. it's about time sony.
