Stop auto page insert

Hi
I'm new to Pages. I'm trying to create a newsletter template that's essentially and opening page, and then more pages each with a double column text box.
In layout view I'm creating a text box on each page, pulling it out to fit the page layout area, making it a double column using Inspector....but, I cannot stop it automatically creating a fifth (and even sixth) page as I create the text box on the third page. It seems to be something to do with the page height. It's all OK until the text box gets closer to the bottom of the page, and then bingo, another page appears.

It's hugely frustrating and I'd value any ideas as to why, how to stop it or ideally how to turn off the auto create of new pages. I only want four!!!!

Thanks

There is something surprising in your description.
Which kind of document are you working upon, Word Processor or Layout ?

In Layout documents, I never saw a page created without an user action.

In Word Processor, as far as I know, the creation of new pages is ruled by what we insert in the main text layer, not by the floating text boxes.
In this mode, I'm not sure that you really need to use text boxes.
In page one you may use the main text layer in full width then insert a layout break or a section break to be able to work with the same layer with two columns in other pages.

Given that, it seems that something is missing or odd in what you wrote.

The box you are creating has Wrap set so is pushing over some invisible characters from the page under to form the 2nd, 3rd etc pages.

Delete the characters or use a Page Layout mode template which has no default text area.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to make a newsletter with multiple fold out pages. Depending how you are going to print this you may not be going about it the best way.
