GLIMS and adding search engines

Question

GLIMS and adding search engines

I want to add Spicific as a search engine. I think the Query URL is the problem.

Do I just remove the url in the box for google and paste the address for Spicific, inserting it before the #query# field?

I tried that but when I go to search, having chosen Spicific, I receive a Page Not Found.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

You can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:

http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine

Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

BUT: I can discover no trace of a search engine called Specific. Can you provide a link?

It's called Spicific. I did enter http://www.spicific.com to the Query URL Field. It's not working as described in my original post.

I couldn't get it to work with Glims either.

oops, sorry, the name of the search engine is Spific and the correct URL is

http://www.spific.com/

Now when I try to cut and paste the correct URL address or just edit text in the URL box for the search engine in GLIMS, the existing URL and #query# field disappear and I am unable to enter any text or URL.

something's up with glims if you can't edit that box at all. Restart & if that doesn't cut it, remove/reinstall.

This is crazy.

Glims is now gone from Preferences. Just in case, I downloaded the Glims uninstaller and ran it. Then I downloaded Glims again (so it must be the latest build). Tried adding spific.com as a search engine, and still receiving the Page Not Found message. I also quit and restarted Safari after each step.

beats me Chris - I even downloaded glims to make sure it works 🙂

you need exactly this & nothing before or after it - use the arrow keys to move down past the end of the box & make sure.
