Hi everyone!

I'm having a problem with accessing an ftp site that I hope you can help with... accessing the site through sftp/ftp I am asked for the password, which is not accepted at all, after 3 successive tries, the error message given is:

Permission denied (publickey,password).
Connection closed

I know the password is correct (After contacting the administrator numerous times, and being able to access the online server control panel with the same password)...

The administrator sent me the .ste file, which I'm uncertain about... although this statemnt is possibly cause for concern?
" useSFTP="FALSE" "

This is a new account that has recently been set up...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That means NOT to use SFTP, which would obviate the need for a password. But if the site you are trying to access requires a password, i.e. it's a SFTP/only site, then you are back to square one. I suppose you are using a FTP/SFTP client application; if so, it should have a .plist file in the Library directory. I suggest you try: quit that application, park the .plist file in a neutral location where it will not be recognized by your FTP client (e.g. Desktop), log out, log back in, launch the STP client who will then generage a new .plist file, that might help. But if you have in that application bookmarks or other preset options that you want to save, a new .plist file will not preserve those settings. Another way around would be to try and edit that .plist file the the Property List Editor.app

Hi Charly,

Thanks very much...
I was actually using sftp through the terminal window... I'm not sure what the equivalent of the plist file is, although I deleted the entry in the known_hosts file yesterday... Today when I tried to connect I got the message below instead.

I'm pretty sure no dns spoofing if occurring... it's probably just the way the server has been set up. Do you know if there's anything I can tell the administrator that will help to solve this problem?

Also, what does (publickey, password) signify exactly? Initially i tried connecting
(sftp -oPasswordAuthentication=yes username@ftp.uluruproj.info)
with different option variants, thinking there was a problem with the password authentication... but i couldn't get any answers from google...

Thanks,
Lauren
