ATV2 only displays Apple Logo

Does anybody know what it means when the ATV2 only shows the Apple Logo on the TV. The TV is an LG DU-37LZ30. It unfortunately does not have HDMI so it connected via HDMI-DVI. I checked it on some other TVs with HDMI and it worked fine. If the HDMI-DVI didn't work why would it show the Apple Logo, wouldn't it show a blank screen?

Any suggestions?

I suspect it's not working properly over DVI and failing to negotiate display settings properly with the TV despite managing to display the Apple logo, and hanging.

As it works ok with other TVs the connection or TV seems to be the logical culprit (at least in a compatibility sense).

Does your TV support 720p over DVI which is really what it needs to start up properly (old AppleTV had user selectable output settings but this unit doesn't).

The manual says that it supports 720p over DVI

Component 1/2 RGB-DTV,DVI-DTV
480i Yes No
480p Yes Yes
720p Yes Yes
1080i Yes Yes

It also claims to support HDCP

- This TV supports HDCP(High-bandwidth Digital Contents Protection) protocol for DTV (480p,720p,1080i) mode.

I am starting to agree that it is the TV. But on paper it should work. I even checked the appletv2 on an older Runco Projector at work and it worked fine. And that was HDMI-DVI converted then to RGBHV.

I am having exactly the same issue:

ATV2 works great on LCD TV (Philips 26PF4310) with DVI-I in. Using DVI cable and HDMI-to-DVI adaptor on ATV2.

Unfortunately ATV2 (SW updated Dec 29, 2010) does not work on my Panasonic PT-AE500E LCD projector (DVI-D- connector) - and this is where the ATV2 schould be used. Symptom: displays just the Apple logo. LED on ATV2 flahes when remote is operated. After a minute the screen turns white (I suppose the screen saver).
List of unsuccessful tries:
+switched from Ethernet Lan connection, to wireless, to none - no effect
+did the reset (Menu + down for 6 seconds) - no effect
+exchanged the HDMI cable + HDMI-to-DVI adaptor to DVI-cable + DVI-HDMI adpator (the combination that works with my LCD TV) - no effect

Anybody out there who solved this? Any solution? Thanks.

Same here

Using Panasonic PT AE500E with DVI-HDMI adapter

every device works perfect, sat, blueray player

only apple tv wont work

I see the apple..and then it stops

so i looked on a normal tv

checked, what happens if i start device without plugged in hdmi

it boots..and when cable is in..few seconds later picture..

so back to the beamer

started apple tv without hdmi cable

waited ~2minutes

plugged in cable, nd got picture..

so in basic it works

but apple tv hangs on boot

also i need ~10 tries to get nrmal pictures when apple tv is full booted without hdmi cable plugged in

seems to be, that just has some boot issues and some kind of timing issue on the conenction

tried different cables

any other hdmi/dvi connected device works...

apple please fix this

dvi and hdmi communication has a written standard, just saying on hotline..this is no supported conenction is ignorant, as always...

rest of world devices work...

It is not a problem of the cord

I took my old one, and with enough plugin/outs i also got a synchronized signal

i read an article, that when you send hdmi signal connected to dvi, there must be switched something in transfer of signals, like a protocal or so

seems that the atv is not really able to do this correctly

my old panasonic beamer with its dvi+hdcp interface works like a charm with different BD players, old/newer sat receivers

there was only one device he didnt liked, that was a very old dvd recorder. but this one also made trouble at very much tv's

so i dont think it is a problem at my bemaers site...its the arrogance of apple, not supporting this issue

phone support told me..we say on package, conenct to hdmi, you connected to dvi

i said read wikipedia...hdmi is created to be compatible with dvi...

they told me..you did not, what we have written..no support...

after that i canceld the order of my macbook pro and bought a windows notebook..for half price, more features, power..and with all freedom to do, what i like...

this is the beginning of saying goodbye to apple, for their ignocrance of user problems and meanings,
