Ipod touch wifi not working-solutions dont help

I have a 16gb 2nd gen ipod touch

Until the 4.1 update, it worked great! After the update, not so much...

Neither my ipods wifi nor bluetooth work, and are both constantly greyed out

I have gone and reset my network settings, erased all contents and settings, and restored from backup. My wifi came back on my ipod for about...5 mins and then went out again

I know there is not a problem with my router, as my wii works fine on the internet.

The same thing happened to me, and I see many other people with a problem on WiFi after the 4.1 upgrade. I run a Belkin router and made sure the firmware was updated, wiped the network ID on the iTouch and re-entered, and disabled the WMM on my router. No effect. The WiFi works when I connect the iTouch to my PC, at first, but it won't stay connected.

It's definitely an iTouch problem related to 4.1. We can only hope that Apple admits it's their problem and quickly sends another update to fix this.

You first need to tackle the grayed out WiFi/Bluetooth problem. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559

Once you have that solved, follow the three steps below to get your WiFi reconnected:

1. Reboot your router - unplug it from its power source for 30 seconds or so
2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. Log back into your network using the following route: Tap Settings > WiFi > Other. Re-enter your network name, security setting, and network password.

If you still have problems, look at your security settings on the router. If you are using WEP, change it to WPA2-psk. Look for firmware upgrades for your router and do the upgrade.

Apple tends to use the latest in networking protocols when doing a major software upgrade. Old routers/router firmware turn out to cause a majority of the networking problems seen after an upgrade.
