IPhone ALARMS 1 HR EARLY

ALARM triggers one hour early since Nov 1 2010, IPhone 3GS with IOS 4.1. Now I noticed some other forum posts commenting about daylight savings causing the issue. However since that has not come into effect here in NL Canada yet, I am curious as to what is the cause.

I live in California, my time zone is set to "Cupertino", and Time Zone Support is on. I have a 3GS with iOS 4. This morning, my alarm went off an hour early. I have since done a little bit of testing & here's what I found:

A non-repeating alarm goes off at the corrrect time.

An alarm set to repeat "everyday" goes off an hour early.

An alarm set to repeat "every weekday" goes off at the correct time.

No idea what the cause is, but I hope that helps, anyway.

(It will be interesting to see what happens next weekend when we return to Standard Time!)

I agree that it's not DST specific but somehow I think it's a DST related issue, some glitch in the software.

This is what I posted in the other thread yesterday...

"I was late to update to iOS 4.1 but when I did the battery on my phone would drain at a drastic rate. I did a lot of things such as turning off push etc. to resolve this problem but to no avail.

This morning my phone alarm went off one hour early as some others have said. I live in North America so have not rolled the time back so this really doesn't explain the problem. After doing some online research I did a test on my phone and found that if the alarm is not set to repeat it goes off at the correct time, but if set to repeat (everyday) it will go off an hour early.

Furthermore my battery drain issue seems to be fixed as of today. I have used my phone very little today, as I have gotten used to using it sparingly, and my battery is still at 93%. In days recently passed with similar usage it would be down to 50% - 60%

Bottom line, something in the phone software (iOS 4.1) seems to have been set to change today 1 Nov. 2010 and apparently fixed a battery drain issue but screwed up the alarm."

I'm also in the UK and can't seem to work it out as it seems to be inconsistent as well - ladysun1969 posted that:

A non-repeating alarm goes off at the corrrect time.

An alarm set to repeat "everyday" goes off an hour early.

An alarm set to repeat "every weekday" goes off at the correct time.

I have an "every weekday alarm" and its not going off at the correct time - I set it an hour early so that it would and that worked yesterday but not today :S

Will try Alienlove's advice and switch off automatic timezone off next.

Please apple - get us a fix soon!

Dirk, I did not have success with this technique. My "time zone support" stays turned off. It was set to a different time zone (the time zone where my phone number is based) and even after setting it to the correct time zone I tested my alarms with repeat on for every day and it did not work properly. I even turned time zone support on with the correct time zone selected and it didn't work.

My findings thus far are that you can have the alarm set to repeat up to six days and it will go off on time (it does not matter which day you omit). But if you select to repeat everyday it will be an hour early.

my guess is that this is daylight savings related. on nov 1, i set my alarm for "every day". since then, it has gone off early by one hour. daylight savings is on nov. 7. this means that when i set my alarm for "every day" on or after nov 1, the interval spans daylight savings and post daylight savings (before and after nov 7). iphone prolly got confused and just picked the earlier time (post daylight savings). maybe if we only set our alarms for days before nov 7, it will be ok. if we set an alarm to repeat before and after daylight savings (nov 7), i predict issues.

Definitievely an Apple BUG.

Apple please fix this. Since I have learned to trust the alarm it caused me two missed appointments as I ignored the alarm when it went off and did not undestand why.

I have made several test with several iphones and another user is 100% correct:

A non-repeating alarm goes off at the corrrect time.

An alarm set to repeat "everyday" goes off an hour early.

An alarm set to repeat "every weekday" goes off at the correct time.

and even

An alarm set to repeat 6 days a wekk goes off at the correct time.

So this ONLY happens when you set the alarm to everyday. Setting the time automatically or manually did not change the behaviour on my test. So the only temporary fix for now is DONT use the everyday option, just remember to turn on the alarm before you go to sleep.

Sent Bug notice to apple see if that helps this time around. My first guess is that when the US catches up to ST this would fix itself, but now I am not so sure as when I set the alarm to ring today and Sunday (thinking that it uses the time that it will be on Sunday) it goes off at the correct time. Either way apple MUST fix this as otherwise we will all be an hour LATE to our appointments in Spring.

Again, solution for now: DONT USE EVERYDAY.

I've got the same problem with my alarm on iOS4.1 since the daylight saving time occurred here in Sweden a few days ago. Except that my alarm goes off 1 hour too late. It made me arrive too late for work one day. Can I send a bill to Apple? 🙂

Now I have to set my alarm at 06.00 if I want to wake up at 07.00.

These kinds of bugs shouldn't be happening. Amateurs.

It's only a matter of one day, but I seem to be the only one who's not reporting Nov. 1 as the trigger date. It was the morning of Oct. 31 that I first noticed this issue. On my phone, I have a few different alarms that I use in my life: Workdays (repeat Mon-Fri), Days Off (repeat Every day), and Naps (no repeat). I noticed that it hasn't been an issue through the week, only on my days off. So yeah, definitely, the problem only pops up when I use the alarm that's set to repeat every day of the week. People are saying that they're continuing to wake up an hour early, and/or having to set their alarm an hour early all the time now? Simple work-around for the time being seems to be to just change your alarm repeat settings and/or use a few different alarms to compensate! Then life can quite easily be normal again 🙂

I'm not so sure it's DST-related, as it started on Oct. 31 for me, but time will tell. We'll see if this problem remains consistent after this weekend, once DST ends.
