My new iphone 4 will not rotate to landscape mode anymore!

Dear All,

I have been using my new iphone 4 for more than 1 month without any problems at all. Since Saturday morning, though, I have been experiencing this issue: my iphone does not rotate its screen anymore, basically the display does not go into landscape mode anymore. This issue happens with any application (pictures, safari, or ipod).
I would like to let you know that I tried the following:

1)Turning off and on my iphone several times
2)"Reset All Settings" from the Settings>General>Reset menu
3)Checking the “rotation lock” button and it is off (unlocked)
4)Testing the calculator application and only the standard calculator will appear, by rotating the iphone to landscape mode the scientific calculator will not appear.

I am thinking the accelerometer might be broken. By the way, it has never fallen to ground or anything similar.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out as I am very struggling with it!

You may have turned it on and off a few times but have to tried a hard reset by holding down the power and home keys at the same time until the Apple logo appears?

ill confirm for you that this will almost certainly work! ive had the issue a couple of times, usually after installing a new game or app that changes the screen rotation. A hard reset resolves the issue.

If you have your iPhone with you, you don't need to wait until you get home to Reset it as a Reset only requires the iPhone... it does not need your computer.

Good morning,
Unfortunately it didn't work:( I spent all night trying to fix the problem. I did try anything..even the "Erase All Content and Settings" which I did twice..I am really depressed! Please help!!!

It sounds like the phone is physically broken is some way. The next step is to take it to see a genius in an Apple store and get it replaced.

On Iphone 3GS if you vlick the menu button twice quickly you get a single row of icons, scroll as far as you can to the right and the very last icon should be a rotation circle, that locks and unlocks rotation screen, you could give it a try on i-phone 4 and see if that works.

Thanks. this is what I am going to do today. Do you think they will replace it with a new one even if I didin't buy it in the store but on Apple web site?

Do you have the aspect ratio locked ? On your home screen press the home button twice and you see the list of programs open. Now swipe to the left and you should get ipod settings and an option for locking or unlocking portrait.

Did you not read the original post?

This is most likely a failure in the hardware.

I would suggest trying to use a game that uses the accelerometer to see if you can play it properly...
If a hard reset hasn't worked and factory settings don't work then I can't see it being software.
