Currently have 3hrs of footage from an event....wondering how I can create a time lapse of it all in FCP. I want to make it shortened down to around 4mins if possible. How is this created?

Is it one long clip?

No, there are currently 6 clips.

If it were me (caveat here -- if you were me chances are you wouldn't do things the best way) I might just nest the sequence and then do a speed change. That would make everything go by in super fast forward fashion. Or maybe you could do some math, and figure that you need to make a still frame every X amount of time.
Try exporting a reference quicktime of your sequence and reimporting it into your project. Drop it in a sequence. Use the Time remap tool (click and hold in the select edit points tool until you see the icon that looks like a clock and choose it). Click and drag the end of your clip until it's at the 4 min mark.

PS: This is for FCP 7. Earlier versions of FCP require use of the speed dialog (CMD+J) or Time Remapping in the Motion Tab of the viewer.

Oh I forgot to add ... then I'd do a cross dissolve between each still frame.
Nevermind what I said. Do what Andy said.
Andy: So are you saying to have all of the clips I want in one long clip exported, then imported again and then speed up with the "Time Remap" tool?

Thanks though!

Yes. Using a Reference Quicktime instead of a self-contained quicktime is faster since you don't have to create 3 hours of new media just for the speed change.

Did not realize you mentioned afterwards that that was for FCP 7 users...I'm still on studio 6.

It's the same basic method, but in FCP 6 you don't have the time remap tool (at least not how I was describing it being used).
Same method, just select the REF QT in your sequence and hit CMD+J. Adjust the speed until the result equals 4 minutes or so. Might take some trial and error.
