I thought this was an interesting question and didn't know the answer to it, so I tried it myself. The answer is that if the machine is sleeping, the Shut Down command won't be executed. Nor will it be executed as soon as the machine is waked. It will simply be ignored until the scheduled time rolls around again 24 hours later, and will be carried out then if the MBP is awake.
I presume that if the MBP is running in clamshell mode (with its display closed and an external display, keyboard and mouse connected), it will shut down as scheduled despite the display being closed. But if it's
sleeping in clamshell mode, I presume it won't shut down.
Why do you want to shut it down each day? You will save time each morning waiting for it to start up again and reopening the documents you were working on if you simply set it to sleep after a period of inactivity instead of shutting down.
