Problem with MacBook speakers

I have a new MBP. I am listening to the stereo speakers for the first time and notice something odd. When I adjust the balance slider to the right, all sound is coming from that speaker, nothing from the left. When I adjust the slider all the way to the left, there is still sound coming from the right speaker. I tried it with headphones and when it is all the way right, sound on right side only. All the way left, left side only. Plus, the speakers don't sound very good at all. Is this a trip to the Apple store? Is it a hardware problem or software?

Thanks for the help. It is definitely the sub woofer in the right channel when the balance slider is all the way left. Oh well. As was pointed out many times in the previous topic, if you are expecting audio quality out of notebook speakers, well.....you shouldn't.
