Iphone has stopped ringing and all sound is off

Hi! My Iphone has suddenly decided to quit audible ringing. I have checked my settings and everything is set up for sound however it no longer rings when someone calls....
has anyone else had this issue? If so how did you resolve it?

I am having the same problem with my 3GS. One day, my sounds completely stopped working. My silent switch is off, and everything else on my phone works properly. I cannot play music, listen to videos or hear sounds on my apps. It will not ring or make a sound when a text message or email is received. I do not understand why none of my sounds will work when it is on loud and the volume is all the way up. I tried backing up the software and rebooting the phone, but still will not work. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
