DDR2 and DDR3 are 100% NOT compatible. However you may be able to upgrade your mid 2007 iMac to a total of 6GB. You will need to locate a RAM chip with the following specifications:

• Size: 4.0GB
• Technology: DDR2 SDRAM
• Pin Count: 200-pin
• Data Rate: 667 MT/s
• Speed: PC2-5300

Simply remove one of the RAM chips you have currently installed and replace with the new chip and it's done. I recently did this upgrade and put the new 4GB chip in the right bank. Here in the US you can find those chips from OWC (macsales.com) and I have seen them on eBay too.
