My XP install seems to be a little buggy...

Only just installed it. Firefox keeps crashing. The desktop "My folder" shortcut had its target changed from C: to E: which has caused another prog to say it's on an invalid drive.

I've installed XP loads of times elsewhere and not had probs.

Is this common? I usually use Norton SystemWorks (2005) which cleans up a lot of little bugs, like bad shortcuts. Would that be unwise here?

On other Boot Camp partitions?

-"Is this common?"-
I think you answered your own question on that one if the question above is yes.:)

Well, Boot Camp isn't perfect but neither is the Windows installer sometimes. Between the two, "issue's" can occur.

You might un-install then re-install FFox just to double check it. From what I've come across "short cut's" have their own issues on a normal PC install.

You could reinstall Windows again to be able to start fresh as it were but I would try Norton first.
I don't think there would be any reason NOT to use Norton's as Windows is pretty much 99 percent native. Worst case scenario you could re-install Windows if it messed it up more. I haven't really heard of any of the disk utility's like Norton's, etc, messing up Via Boot Camp.

From what I understand Boot Camp only transfers the basic Windows version of the Mac drivers for continuity, like the Video card, keyboards, ethernet, etc, to be able to translate between the two.

Every thing else is Windows problems and Windows alone. If Internet Explorer works then it's a problem with FFox not the install.

Hope that helps.......

I meant I've done it loads of times on PCs. First time with Boot Camp.

Strange then at this version of Frefox is buggy, but rock solid on my other PC installs.

Norton Systemworks 2005 works like a charm on regular PCs. I know there's been a lot of criticism of Norton Virus, and I don't use it, buy Systemworks is really good. The 2005 edition got rid of the bugs (it used to have probs with recognising multiple boot options) and I use it now all of the time. Running it on boot camp found 9 registry and 29 shortcut errors, plus a hundred junk files! After an XP install plus adding my usual widgets that's kind of normal though.

Still to try running some real progs...

Well, not picking on FFox but, good as example as any, it's not so much buggy in it's self as when it installs it becomes buggy. Doesn't matter if PC or Mac programs. I rarely have problems but after reading about other people's problems it happens more often then people think.

You have to figure that after how many thousand's of disks that are burned how many didn't quite make the grade. And then a speck of dust on the CD/DVD and you have a 50 50 chance it will work. Same with downloads, how many millions of miles of wires, routers and switch's and airwaves etc, it has to go through and it really amazes me how many problems we DON'T have.

Have fun....
