Eject key?

Honestly what the h* is the eject key for on the macbook air! I understand it can be used for external drives but... Is there a way to remap the eject key to eject usb drives?

MacBook air 13 / Iphone 4/ iPad 64gb, Mac OS X (10.6.4), bootcamp windows 7

I use it for the sleep/restart/shutdown shortcuts.

Is there a way to remap the eject key to eject usb drives?

If you have multiple USB drives, how will the shortcut know which one to eject?

From the MBA user guide, (c) 2008, so I assume the previous generation.

*Media Eject key*
Press and hold this key to *eject a disc from a MacBook Air SuperDrive* (available separately at www.apple.com/store). You can also eject a disc by dragging its desktop icon to the Trash.

I thought about the two usb problem but I only have one usb pugged in at one time so shouldn't be much of a problem. I also understand it is used for the usb superdrive but I don't own one and don't plan on it. I just would like the key to DO SOMETHING for me!

Here's one solution that I found to work for me. Use the "KeyRemap4MacBook" preference pane (http://pqrs.org/macosx/keyremap4macbook/) to remap the eject key to F12. Then install unDock Lite (app store under utilities) and under preferences set the trigger hotkey to F12. The eject key should now eject a connected external usb drive when pressed.
