Delete photos from iPhone after import

I cannot figure out a way to delete photos from my iPhone after successfully importing them into my Aperture 3 library. This is crazy. Why isn't there a way to delete them other than:

a. going into my iPhone and selecting them one by one and deleting.

b. importing into Aperture, then importing into iPhoto, then delete and eject card when prompted, then delete the new album out of iPhoto.

c. import from image capture every time and have image capture delete after import

I can't think of a reason that this has been excluded from Aperture and even Aperture 3 still doesn't have it. I understand that there are proper ways to reformat a memory card after importing, but iPhone for example doesn't have it's own way of doing that. Please please somebody help. I love Aperture. This however is crazy to me. Why doesn't Aperture support 'delete and eject card'? Even the manual says it is supported. Please help thank you.

Perhaps you can create an AppleScript to run when the import is complete. You can select the Action in the import settings to have it run automatically.

Well, the workaround is either deleting them one by one on your phone, or if you open the Image Capture program on your mac, you can Edit->Delete photos from the phone that way. Either way, it's some extra steps that need to be in the app itself.

I'd love to see this in Aperture.

PS - I feel like berating the Aperture devs probably won't help us get this feature in. Let's just all keep asking nicely...

I just sent Aperture feedback too. It's a bizarrely basic feature to be missing.

I suppose actual pro users have some other workflow to handle this, so it's never been a big deal for them. But like many others I got in after Aperture's price dropped for the Mac App Store, so as a former iPhoto person it just feels weird.

In the meantime I import with Aperture like before, and then launch Image Capture and delete from there.

Hopefully they'll figure out that a lot of former iPhoto users are now using Aperture and add this feature into the mix.

This is my work around: following a successful import into Aperture I open iPhoto and load them into that app. Then I choose to delete the photos off my iPhone. I then delete all the photos in iPhoto.I know this is a convoluted way of doing it and it ****** me off as well but it sure beats deleting scores, if not hundreds of photos one at a time.

I switched to Aperture last Fall, and since then I have almost 200 photos on my iPhone that I've accumulated but could never figure out how to delete. I was sure that Aperture should have this feature so I kept looking for it. Finally I found this thread.

BTW, I would never have figured out how to do this with Image Capture; in fact, I didn't even know this app existed. So thanks for that tip!

Nevertheless, this seems like a pretty fundamental feature that Aperture should have.

Same deal with the iPad. I have used some iPad applications to edit some photo's. They import just fine, but they cannot be deleted from the iPad after the import process.

Thanks for the tip on Image Capture. It works just fine..

I hope they fix this problem soon. If they market Aperture as a better solution than iPhoto, it should be a better solution. This is a key way in which I use any photo library application.
