Power Adapter Not Charging

Hey all.

This is a pretty new problem but sometimes when I plug my power adapter into my MBP, the light doesn't go on saying it's charging the computer. I feel the larger portion (the brick is what I'll call it) and it's warm and feels like it's receving power, but all of a sudden the part that plugs into the actual computer is extremely fidgety. I have to wiggle it around for it to begin charging.

I've never had this problem before, has this been an issue with the new 85w adapters?

MacBook Pro 15" i7, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

You might check your power port for any pice of debris which might have been attracted by the magnet and which may be preventing a solid contact. You might also check out the power adapter itself

You could also try a SMC reset:

Also check on the condition of your battery in the System Profiler. I had a similar situation, and it turned out the battery was on the fritz.

I have heard of some problems like this when using the L-shaped connector on an original MBP, but not on the newer ones.

I had a similar problem, where the Genius Tech found my adapter to be defective and it was replaced without cost (my pro is still under applecare warranty).

Yeah, neither of the solutions above did the trick...

Have a feeling I'll have to bring it to the apple store...2 hours away. Ugh.

Maybe you could call Apple Support to see if they have a suggestion of an authorized retailer that could check your adapter for you? I think when I lived far away from the Apple Store (when I lived in Washington), there was a place closer by that I was able to go for help with an technical issue that I had.

PS I am not sure of the age of your Pro, but in recent months (don't know exactly when), the new adapters have been modeified so the part that connects into the Pro is similar to the Air's adapter.
