Cannot connect iP100 printer to MacBook via Canon Bluetooth Adapter **-30

Greetings All,

1) Bluetooth is on and discoverable. OS 10.6.4.
2) "Setting the Printer" procedure (iP100's on-screen manual) satisfactorily completed. Check the model name = Canon iP100 series.
3) "Registering the Printer" is where I appear to have come to grief. The procedure (again from the on-screen manual) is specifically for Mac OS X v. 10.4 x. I thought it might work for SL 10.6.4...
5) "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" was different, there being no provision for selecting device type. However, I did get to Bluetooth Set Up, Searching for your printer, and the iP100 was found - Canon iP100 series (91:5B:06).
5) Pressing "Continue" stopped at "This computer is already paired with Canon iP100 series (91:5B:06)".
6) There was no prompt for "Pairing Request from" - this is apparently the vital penultimate step...

7) Bluetooth Preferences -

".....MacBook is the name Bluetooth devices use to connect to this computer"
On discoverable
Canon iP100 series (91:5B:06) not connected
(Bluetooth symbol) 08-18-1a-07-8a-b2 not connected
Type Printer
Services COM Port
Hardcopy Cable Replacement
OBEX Object Push
Paired Yes
Connected No

8) From the internet, it was suggested I look for driver ip100sosmosx100us, aka ip100svst216ea24... I have not tried this yet, as I'm a cautious wee soul.

9) Some of you must have struck this "problem" - Help! Tks.

Cheers, all

Ken

Hi Ken,

I just ran through the setup of my MP980 using the **-30 and it all seemed to work okay for me. Using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant the MP980 series-1 was displayed as a Printer and on clicking Continue there was a very brief message about pairing and using 0000 for the passkey. However before I could enter the key the assistant closed and then showed the printer was paired and connected.

I then opened Print & Fax and selected to Add the printer using the Default view. The MP980 appeared after several seconds with the Kind column showing 'bluetooth' and when selected the Print Using menu changed to the MP980 series. Clicked OK to complete the creation of the print queue and was then able to print to it from Preview.

The thing I did notice with the Bluetooth app in Sys Prefs was that after a document had printed the printer was showing 'Not Connected'. But as soon as I selected to print again this would change to 'Connected'.

Regarding the driver, Canon is showing v10.26 for the iP100, which is the same version used by other models. If you connect the iP100 to the Mac via USB and then run Software Update you should get an even later version (10.30.3.0) that is also part of the [Canon Driver Update v2.3|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Canon Printer_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106] update.

Once again, many thanks, Pahu!

It was gratifying to have you confirm what I'd thought I'd seen first time around - your first paragraph.

In retrospect, from then on I obviously went around in circles, lacking the confidence and above all the wit to go to Print & Fax. Having done so now, all is well. You said a few months ago that a USB connection was faster than Bluetooth. How true! the data transfer rate vv that over USB is rather slow, though acceptable to me. There will be occasions when no cables will be good.

I've got driver version 10.30.3.0.
