"Quantize Note Timing" Message - Won't Load Project... GB Freezes

Hello -

When I open an existing project it appears to load fine until suddenly I get a dialogue box with the message "Quantize Note Timing" and a fully loaded blue progress bar... and Garageband becomes completely unresponsive. The project never loads and I can't quit the application.

Is anyone else having this issue?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I've had that problem as well. I was LIVID about this as well because I had to restore a previous version of the recording from my external hard drive so I had to re do a bunch of stuff. I've been hesitant to use the groove matching and time fixing stuff ever since then because I'm afraid it's going to happen again, which is a shame because all that is one of the major reasons I wanted to get the new GB.

I had the same issue, and got around it by...

Align a finder window corner next to the star icon of the selected master track.
Then I force quit Garageband.
Open the file again and quickly click on the star to disable the quantizing.
Then save it.

Luckily I didn't need, or want the tracks 'quantized.' If you do, try exporting the individual tracks once quantized. Turn off the quantizing, and import the adjusted track. then save, as a copy.

Sounds like the new Flex TIme is messing you up. Turn it off for now -either the star, or in the editor for each track, turn off quantizing.

WORST CASE - If you didn't save the previous version of GarageBand (a good way to do this is control-click on the app, and "Compress" it - this saves an archive for you; do this before you install or upgrade), you could install the APP ONLY of GarageBand '09, and then open the same project, and turn off all "Enhance Timing" on the audio tracks (found in the editor - double click on the region to open it).
Then save, THEN open up into GB '11. Not sure if that will bypass the problem, but I think it would.

And, yes, it looks like they've made the Flex Time tool the easiest tool to get to - so be careful and watch the cursor in order to see what too is active while you're in the editor. You have to be in the lower part of the waveform in order to get the old standard cursor.

And the crashes - there have been a lot of posts on this, and I think someone said Apple knows about the issue already, so hopefully there will be a fix for it.
