Q: iSight does not work with online Flash-based chat sites

Hello. I have tried everything to get my iSight to work online with sites like Chatroulette, but Flash is not detecting the camera at all.

Some facts:
1. The iSight is detected under System Profiler > USB > USB High-Speed Bus > Built-in iSight.
2. The iSight works in Photo Booth and other similar apps.
3. I have reset the PRAM and PMU 3 times each, to no avail.
4. I have created a separate user, but the same problem exists on that account.
5. When I try to change the camera settings on Chatroulette, I am either presented with no camera options at all or only "DV Video" and "IIRC Firewire."
6. This has been a problem for about 4 months now. It was fixed temporarily after a system update but came back shortly thereafter.

I don't believe this is a hardware problem, because it works fine in Photo Booth. I've even tried to have Photo Booth and Chatroulette open at the same time, but I still can't select my iSight as a camera. It doesn't detect it.

I have tried every solution online I could find, but nothing has worked for me. Any ideas, short of reinstalling the OS? Thanks!

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

    Hi,

I can't read Italian so I can't tell where that folder is that you show in the pic.

    I my Hard Drive/Library/Internet Plug-in I have th GoogleBrowser Plug-in listed.

I also have one in Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/Google

I do not have a Google Folder in My Home Folder/Library/Application Support but did have an empty GoogleTalk Browser Plugin folder in Internet Plug-ins

    I don't have Google's Chrome Installed.

The issue appears to be with Flash and the Google Plug-in seems unrealted as some of us have it and Flash Works.

i have performed all of the troubleshoots and resets (including the PRAM and permissions), and even reinstalled firefox, flash and all of my internet plugins. i don't have the google video plugin installed. on the camera tab for the flash settings, the usb cam isnt an option. the only option is the iSight, which doesn't load actually access my cam.

This was just working two days ago. I don't know what changed.

Do you use Time Machine ?

Does the Internet Plug-in Folder have a different version of Flash at that point ?
Has one of the other plug-ins been updated ?

    I don't use Time Machine.

I updated to Flash Player 10.1 when prompted by a website to do so.... I actually just tried downgrading to Flash 9, and then all the options were available to me in the pull-down menu. However, then I'm prompted to update to Flash 10.1 and sites won't load until I do.

So... How can I carry over the cam options from Flash 9 into Flash 10.1? Why are they going away when I update to the newest version?

At this time my thoughts are that the very latest Flash Update is not Identifying any UVC camera properly.

For most people their UVC (USB Video Class) Camera is their Internal iSight

Like you I have had prompts on my main computer to Update Flash several time recently with Firefox Updates. (Meaning there has also been several Flash Updates starting 10.1.x and it is the sub numbers version that are the issue)

Time Machine would have allowed you to back step to a version prior to the last Update.
    It may help others though.

    Hello Ralph.

I tested my non-iSight UVC cam, and it is recognized and works perfectly with Chatroulette site.

My external and inbuilt-iSights and my mini-DV camcorders work equally well.

    Jim

    I found a fix!
I went to this link: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4783/adobe-flash-player

And I downloaded the beta version of Flash 10.2.161.23 that is included toward the bottom of the page. Things work splendidly.

    Hope this helps others!

    Hi EZ Jim,

    That is useful to know.

Unfortunately as our Flash Install works with our Internal iSights it is nit really a test that tells us anything.

It tells me that the very latest Flash Update is Identifying UVC cameras properly on my systems.
