iSight does not work with online Flash-based chat sites

Hello. I have tried everything to get my iSight to work online with sites like Chatroulette, but Flash is not detecting the camera at all.

Some facts:
1. The iSight is detected under System Profiler > USB > USB High-Speed Bus > Built-in iSight.
2. The iSight works in Photo Booth and other similar apps.
3. I have reset the PRAM and PMU 3 times each, to no avail.
4. I have created a separate user, but the same problem exists on that account.
5. When I try to change the camera settings on Chatroulette, I am either presented with no camera options at all or only "DV Video" and "IIRC Firewire."
6. This has been a problem for about 4 months now. It was fixed temporarily after a system update but came back shortly thereafter.

I don't believe this is a hardware problem, because it works fine in Photo Booth. I've even tried to have Photo Booth and Chatroulette open at the same time, but I still can't select my iSight as a camera. It doesn't detect it.

I have tried every solution online I could find, but nothing has worked for me. Any ideas, short of reinstalling the OS? Thanks!

Although you mark your topic "Answered," you don't say whether or how your problem was corrected.

With all you have tried, my next suggestion is the Chatroulette website admonition that:

Chatroulette needs the latest Flash Player to work. Please download or enable Flash Player 10.

Find the correct version of Flash for your OS here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

When you have the correct version of Flash, you can check Flash Help if necessary:

I have the same problem. All software up to to date. When I open the flash settings I am faced with the same three options - Google Cam Ad 0, Google Cam Ad 1 and Built-In iSight. Non of them are working.

My iSight works fine in Photo Booth, iChat and Skype etc but won't work at all on any websites in Safari using Flash. Have seen a couple of other forum posts in the last 24 hours reporting the same problem.

Hi, this is the OP. I've been unable to login to my "shadowboxer524" account and am unable to retrieve the password (I think phishing may have occurred.)

This question is NOT answered. It's strange that it is marked that way. I haven't been back to the forum until today and to my knowledge, I didn't mark it answered. (Again, this could be the doings of the hijacker.)

Anyway, I have confirmed that I have the most up-to-date version of Flash. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash, to no avail.

@grongo: Under the camera menu, the only option listed is "Default Camera." In previous times I've tried this, I got "DV Video" and "IIDC Firewire" but I didn't have any USB option (despite that my iSight shows up in System Profiler).

Hi to all,

My Pic was grabbed from my G4 (which Cannot run the Google Plug-in).
I checked on my MacBook Pro that does have th Google Plug-in.

My List there is
DV Video
IIDC Firewire Video
Google Camera Adapter 0
Google Camera Adapter 1
USB Video Class

The info does not seem to change from this Document
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help04.html

At this point I have nothing to Add to EZ Jim's comments about checking the System Profiler to see that it is seeing the camera. (grongo's pics suggests his version is seeing the camera but not as a USB Video Class device and other comments support they see the same thing).

Has anyone disabled the iSight at any time or removed the USBDigitiser file ?

I would try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT PR Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

It may also pay to follow these Instructions for a Firewire/USB reset.

It is important to remove the power cable, particularly on Laptops as part of this Process.

Hi shadowboxer524partdeux,

Answered is one way of marking a thread.
There are also the Helpful and solved button that award points

Once you get enough points to be level two there is a "Report this Post" option.

I have done this with the post I am replying to to see if the Hosts can help.

Not even the Hosts can change the Answered or Solved Status of a thread. Only the Original Poster can.

I am having this same issue. I tried using UStream Video and Facebook Video right before I updated to Flash Player 10.1 and it worked fine. I think it's related to this version of Flash because as soon as ChatRoulette was tested it said I needed to update from 10.0 to 10.1. I did the update and then nothing video related online worked. Just Photobooth and anything local. I reset the computer, reset PRAM, repair permisison, etc. At this point I think it's the version and if anyone has the old Flash Version 10, may guess is that it will fix the issue. Adobe please address this error in the new update.

Right, I've found out what the problem was for me.

I recently installed the Google Voice & Video plugin that supports webcam chat on Googlemail. I've just tried uninstalling this and hey presto, the iSight is working again. I've noticed that when you add the Google Plugin it adds Google Adapter 1 and Google Adapter 2 to the webcam list, alongside the iSight - so chances are if you have these two others in your list and having this particular problem, then uninstalling the plugin is your answer.

The uninstall app for the plugin is located at - Library/Application Support/Google/GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app
